Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book, a collaborative work by various individuals, is a study on the state of education and training for working men in manual labor-based industries. Published in the early 1900s, it is a collection of essays and articles that explore the historical significance of the topic within the Canadian context, data from studies conducted during the period, and commentary from industry leaders and government officials. The author posits that education is a right for all, and that the benefits of access to intellectual and academic enrichment should not be limited to those in white-collar positions. The author also emphasizes the value of skilled labor to the nation's economy, and stresses that it is in the best interest of employers and society as a whole to ensure the education and wellbeing of the working class. The author's arguments and suggestions, particularly regarding government involvement in education, were influential in Canada's evolving views on the topic. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book analyzes the issues surrounding the need for a traveling library system to support the isolated and largely transient populations of miners and lumber workers in Ontario. The author stresses the need for these individuals to have the same access to libraries as those in towns and cities and discusses the various methods that could be used to create a system that works within the parameters of the seasonal work and lack of permanent addresses for these workers. The author also discusses the role of education in the lives of these workers, arguing that literacy is key to their social and economic advancement. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the labour history of Ontario, the history of libraries, adult literacy or the social and economic challenges faced by seasonal workers.
