Frakturschrift. - Aus dem Text: Als Schillern in Mannheim die herrlichste Überraschung von der Welt" dadurch widerfuhr, daß ihm aus Leipzig von vier ganz fremden Personen" (Körner, Huber und deren beiden Bräuten) Briefe voll Wärme und Leidenschaft für seine Person und seine Schriften," begleitet von Geschenken, zugingen, schrieb er an seine mütterliche Freundin, Frau von Wolzogen, am 26. Mai 1784: Wenn ich mir denke, daß vielleicht in hundert und mehr Jahren -- wenn mein Staub schon lange verweht ist, man mein Andenken segnet, und mir noch im Grabe Thränen und Bewunderung zollt dann meine Theuerste freue ich mich meines Dichterberufes, und versöhne mich mit Gott und meinem oft harten Verhängniß." Was Schiller damals kaum zu ahnen wagte, hat sich glänzend bewahrheitet. Die Bewunderung für ihn geht so weit, daß wir mit Pietät die Stellen aufsuchen, welche sein Fuß betrat, die Zeugen seiner Thaten und schon bei Lebzeiten Opferstätten für den großen, hochherzigen Mann. Denn die Begeisterung für ihn stieg mit jedem Jahre. Wo er sich später zeigte, wie in Leipzig und Berlin, so auch in Lauchstädt, war er der Gegenstand der höchsten Auszeichnung.
