Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Moyer Bell Limited, Published 1987. Hardcover, xx, 308 pp.; 24 cm; First Edition. In Good condition with a Very Good dust jacket. Blue cloth boards with gold lettering on spine show light surface and edge wear, and mild shelf wear. Binding is tight. Mild foxing to edges of text block, otherwise pages are clean and unmarked. Pictorial dust jacket (1955 Biltmore Hotel press-conference photograph of Kahn, Matusow, and Cameron) has a few small nicks, creasing to edges, and mild foxing to verso. Original $18.95 price intact on front flap. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. During the McCarthy era, Harvey Matusow was a paid government witness for the Justice Department, HUAC, and Senator Joseph McCarthy, testifying against trade unions, teachers, musicians, and performers. In 1955, appalled at the damage done, he recanted in the book False Witness, published by Cameron and Kahn, themselves earlier victims of the blacklist. The Justice Department answered with a federal grand jury subpoena demanding all materials relating to the book. Kahn's memoir, written in the late 1950s but unpublishable for decades, recounts the recantation and the government's attempt to suppress it. Introduction by Angus Cameron, former editor-in-chief of Little, Brown. With appendices, notes, and index. Contents: The Informer; Enter Matusow; The Story Unfolds; Birth of a Book; Before the Storm; Major Explosions; First Encounter; Scales of Justice; Fact and Fiction; Judgment on the Hill; Tale of Two Cities; Off the Press; The Matter of Bail; Crosscurrents; Signs of Summer; Across the Land; Crime and Punishment; Finale; Epilogue; Appendices A-D; Notes; Index.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a pioneering document on the subject of plant diseases affecting crops in Nicaragua. The author was a plant pathologist working for the Servicio Tecnico Agricola de Nicaragua in cooperation with the US Department of Agriculture. While Nicaragua has a rich agricultural history and is a major producer of a wide range of crops, relatively little scientific work on the diseases affecting those crops had been previously done. This book sought to remedy that by creating a record and descriptive list of diseases occurring in the country, based largely on the author's field work and observations. The book is an important contribution to the study of plant diseases in Nicaragua and the broader field of plant pathology. It provides a baseline of knowledge that can be built upon by future research and is a valuable reference for scientists, farmers, agriculturalists, and students. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book studies the motivations and aspirations of high school students in regard to future careers. The author explores the likelihood of those aspirations being realized, analyzing data from interviews and surveys conducted to uncover the factors that do or do not lead to successful vocational outcomes in the lives of these students. The author finds that high school students are not adequately prepared for the job market and that schools need to do a better job of providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the workforce. The book also examines the role of parents and peers in shaping students' career choices and identifies the importance of counseling and guidance in helping students make informed decisions about their future. The insights provided by this book are significant for educators, parents, and anyone else concerned with the future success of young people. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
