Hardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. Food security is one of the major components of social security. It consists of ensuring that food is available at all times, that all persons have means of and access to it, that it is nutritionally adequate in terms of quantity, quality and variety, and t…hat it is acceptable within the given culture. There are three elements in this definition, availability, access and suitability. In recent years, nutrition has been considered as part of food security. The National Development Council (NDC) in its 53rd meeting held on May 29, 2007 adopted a resolution to launch a Food Security Missiona comprising rice, wheat and pulsesa to increase the production of rice by 10 million tons, wheat by 8 million tons and pulses by 2 million tons by the end of the Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-12). Accordingly, a Centrally-sponsored scheme, viz. National Food Security Mission (NFSM) was launched from 2007-08 to operationalize the above mentioned resolution. National Food Security Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 22, 2011. As per the provisions of the Bill, it is proposed to provide 7 kilograms of foodgrains per person per month belonging to priority households at prices not exceeding 3 per kilogram of rice, 2 per kilogram of wheat and 1 per kilogram of coarse grains and to general households not less than 3 kilogram of foodgrains per person per month at prices not exceeding 50 percent of the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat and coarse grains and derived MSP for rice. The present volume consists of 15 research papers on the subject of food security, contributed by scholars in the field. The issues raised in different papers add constructively to the current debate on this sensitive subject of national importance.

Hardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. All too frequently the term Vedanta is used when what is meant, whether recognized or not, is Advaita Vedanta and more specifically, the philosophical system associated with Sankaracarya. Yet in fact Vedanta, literally meaning "the concluding portions of th…e Veda", i.e., the Upanisads, is properly used in Indian philosophy to designate those systems that take such texts as the Upanisads authoritatively along with a few others such as the Brahmasutras, alternatively known as the Vedantasutras. There are a goodly number of philosophical systems, other than Sankara's, that fall into the classification of Vedanta systems, many of them virtually unknown to most students. The names of many of the Vedanta systems derive from their respective theories concerning the relation between Brahman, celebrated in the Upanisads as the highest principle, and Atman, the individual self. Advaita argues these are identical, non-different (abheda); Dvaita says they are completely different (bheda). Other Vedantic systems resist these extremes and argue that the relation between Brahman and self is one of identity-in-difference (bhedabheda). The best-known such system is the Visistadvaita system of Ramanuja and the Srivaisnavas, but there are many others. Here in this Volume the literature of several others of this bhedabheda persuasion-those associated with the names of Bhartr-prapanca, Bhaskara and Srikantha-are explored.

Hardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: As New. 1st Edition. The essays in the present volume deal with Indian prehistory from the beginning of food production to the use of iron. They do not deal with all the major issues and problems, but they may be said to significantly represent the research interests and cur…rent thoughts related to this period. They are detailed in scope and representative of the state of research in late Indian prehistory or protohistory. It has been emphasized earlier that the essays in the present volume should be judged in the context of the general nature of archaeological research in India. But whatever may be said about their quality, there is no point in denying that the study of Indian protohistory has considerably broadened its range of interest in recent years. The present volume has only tried to convey an impression of this widening of interest. (jacket.

Dey. Climate is a vital factor that influences land use, crop quality, its productivity as well as all the other of agricultural systems. The significant impact of climate change is visible on human societies and natural ecosystems around the world. This impact will be more severe on agriculture if global warming continues. As per estimates of IPCC (2014), the agriculture, forestry and other land use contributes 24% of global greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions need to be reduced to avoid the serious impact of climate change using mitigation measures and adaptation strategies. Currently, unreliable and seasonal variations in weather have emerged as a serious challenge for sustainability influencing vegetation, biodiversity, livestock, soil, water, and other natural resources. In the last decade, more occurrence of extreme weather events affected farming community directly in their agricultural growth. The matter is of great concern to country like India, which require more produce from rainfed fields and shrinking crop land. To understand the problems occurring due to climate change, concerted efforts are required for mitigation and adaptation to reduce the vulnerability of rainfed agriculture and making it resilient. Agricultural output as well as the livelihood of people who depend on it, are particularly vulnerable to climate change, and it is important that we assess adaptation mechanisms to reduce these vulnerabilities. These practices should play a vital role to reduce GHG emissions by improving efficiency of farm inputs and others like agroforestry interventions for green agricultural technologies. Similarly, adoption of conservation agriculture, suitable cultivars, changing sowing dates, irrigation scheduling, and recycling waste water and solid waste in agriculture are some of the options for developing climate resilient agriculture. The book has been divided into major heads as: Climate Change and Indian Agriculture, Climate Change Management Strategies in Agriculture, Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Indian Agriculture, New Technologies in relation to Climate Change and with contribution from major research institutes, universities by eminent scientists, faculty members the book will fit into the needs of all concerns.
