Paperback. Condición: Good. IF YOU WERE ATTACKED, WOULD YOU FIGHT BACK? What if your family, your hometown, your entire way of living were threatened by force? That?s what the people of Ukraine faced when Putin?s Russian army invaded their sovereign land, displacing millions of refugees and causing an international crisis threatening democracy across the globe. But the Ukrainian people refused to cave ? and these 9 stories weave the greater tale of their resistance ? and fight for Victory!Victory for Ukraine is a collection created by Ukrainian artists during the first weeks of the Russian invasion, channeling all their emotions - their anger, courage dreams, and despair into one goal, one manifestation of their nation?s fight for survival!Proceeds from VICTORY FOR UKRAINE will be donated by TOKYOPOP to directly benefit Razom for Ukraine, (?Razom? meaning ?together? in Ukrainian), a non-profit Ukrainian-American human rights organization established to give direct support to the people of Ukraine in their pursuit of a democratic society with dignity, justice, and human and civil rights for all.…

Hardback. Condición: Fair. Eight years after annexing Crimea, Russia embarked on a full-scale invasion of neighboring Ukraine in February 2022. For Vladimir Putin, this was a legacy-defining mission--to restore Russia's sphere of influence and undo Ukraine's surprisingly resilient democratic experiment. Yet Putin's aspirations were swiftly eviscerated, as the conflict degenerated into a bloody war of attrition and the Russian economy faced crippling sanctions. How can we make sense of his decision to invade? This book argues that Putin's policy of global counter-revolution is driven not by systemic factors, such as preventing NATO expansion, but domestic ones: the desire to unite Russians around common principles and consolidate his personal brand of authoritarianism. This objective has inspired military interventions in Crimea, Donbas and Syria, and now all-out war against Kyiv.Samuel Ramani explores why Putin opted for regime change in Ukraine, rather than a smaller-scale intervention in Donbas, and considers the impact on his own regime's legitimacy. How has Russia's long-term political and foreign policy trajectory shifted? And how will the international response reshape the world order.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Detective Arkaday Renko--"one of the most compelling figures in modern fiction" (USA TODAY)--risks his life when he heads to Ukraine shortly before the Russian invasion to find an anti-Putin activist who has mysteriously disappeared. Martin Cruz Smith has written nine previous novels featuring Arkady Renko, one of modern detective fiction's most popular characters. These novels, beginning with 1981's international sensation Gorky Park, have collectively traced Russia's evolution over the last half-century. Now, with Independence Square, Smith focuses on the fraught and frenzied days leading up to Vladimir Putin's war against Ukraine. It's June 2021, and Arkady knows that Russia is preparing to invade and subsequently annex Ukraine as it did Crimea in 2014. He is, however, preoccupied with other grievances. His longtime lover, Tatiana Petrovna, has deserted him for her work as an investigative reporter. His corrupt boss has relegated him to a desk job. And he is having trouble with his dexterity and balance. A visit to his doctor reveals that these are symptoms for Parkinson's Disease. This is an ingenious autobiographical conceit, as Martin Cruz Smith has Parkinson's, and is able through Arkady to movingly describe his own experience with the disease. Parkinson's hasn't stopped Smith from his work, and neither does it stop Arkady. Rather than dwell on his diagnosis, he throws himself into another case. An acquaintance has asked him to find his daughter, Karina, an anti-Putin activist who has disappeared. In the course of the investigation, Arkady falls for Karina's roommate, Elena, a Tatar from Ukraine. The search leads them to Kyiv and Crimea, where rumblings of an armed conflict grow louder. Later, in Crimea, Tatiana reemerges to complicate Arkady's new romance. And as he gets closer to locating Karina, Arkady discovers something that threatens his life as well as the lives of both Elena and Tatiana. Few fiction writers have better captured contemporary Russia with more insight or authenticity than Martin Cruz Smith. He does the same here for Ukraine and the events that preceded Russia's invasion. Independence Square is a timely and a uniquely personal mystery and political thriller by a master of the form.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. ?Martin Cruz Smith does more on a page than most writers manage in a chapter. He is unique and irreplaceable? MICK HERRON, author of Slow HorsesARKADY RENKO IS BACK . . . Confined to a desk job by his superiors to keep him out of the way, Arkady Renko is more disillusioned with the general state of Russia than ever. But, despite everything, he has hope. People want change, and politician Leonid Lebedev could be the man to do it. Tasked by a father with finding his missing daughter, a staunch Lebedev supporter and member of the Forum, Renko is thrown into the heart of a dangerous conspiracy when another member of the Forum is found murdered ? Alex, a close friend of his own son. The night before his murder, Alex sent Arkady a cryptic message, simply containing three pictures of Russian writers. The link between the pictures is there, if only he could see it. But Arkady has just been diagnosed with Parkinson?s and the disease is taking its toll. This time, he must fight more than the impenetrable Russian regime to get answers ? he will also need to fight himself. PRAISE FOR MARTIN CRUZ SMITH:?Smith was among the first of a new generation of writers who made thrillers literary? Guardian? One of those writers that anyone who is serious about their craft views with respect bordering on awe? Val McDermid?Martin Cruz Smith writes with an immediacy, depth and lightness of touch that is rare in its combination, and impossible to resist . . . Independence Square is no exception, and further crystallises Cruz Smith as one of the finest writers of our age? Charlotte Philby ??The undisputed master of the political crime thriller? Abir Mukherjee'A moving portrayal of struggle against political and personal tides' New York Times.…

Hardback. Condición: Good. New York Times, USA Today, Amazon, and Publishers Weekly bestseller Aspects of History, The Critic, Octavian, and Modern War Institute Book of the Year. Two leading authorities--an acclaimed historian and the outstanding battlefield commander and strategist of our time--collaborate on a landmark examination of military history and war since 1945. Conflict is both a sweeping history of the evolution of warfare from the Cold War conflicts up to Putin's invasion of the Ukraine, and a penetrating analysis of military strategy and what we must learn from the past--and anticipate in the future--in order to navigate an increasingly perilous world. In this deep and incisive study, General David Petraeus, who commanded the US-led coalitions in both Iraq, during the Surge, and Afghanistan and former CIA director, and the prize-winning historian Andrew Roberts, explore over 70 years of conflict, drawing significant lessons and insights from their fresh analysis of the past. Drawing on their different perspectives and areas of expertise, Petraeus and Roberts show how often critical mistakes have been repeated time and again, and the challenge, for statesmen and generals alike, of learning to adapt to various new weapon systems, theories and strategies. Among the conflicts examined are the Arab-Israeli wars, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the two Gulf Wars, the Balkan wars in the former Yugoslavia, and both the Soviet and Coalition wars in Afghanistan, as well as guerilla conflicts in Africa and South America. Conflict culminates with a bracing look at Putin's disastrous invasion of Ukraine, yet another case study in the tragic results when leaders refuse to learn from history, and an assessment of the nature of future warfare. Filled with sharp insight and the wisdom of experience, Conflict is not only a critical assessment of our recent past, but also an essential primer of modern warfare that provides crucial knowledge for waging battle today as well as for understanding what the decades ahead will bring. This essential study of modern warfare delivers critical lessons on: The Evolution of Warfare: Trace conflict from 1945 through the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the modern battlefield in Ukraine. Lessons from History: An incisive look at why statesmen and generals alike have repeated critical mistakes and the challenge of adapting to new technologies. Global Conflict Zones: In-depth case studies of the Arab-Israeli wars, Vietnam, the Falklands, the Balkans, and guerilla conflicts in Africa and South America. The Future of Conflict: A bracing assessment of Putin's invasion and a clear-eyed look at the technologies and strategies that will define the battlefields of tomorrow.…
