Añadir al carritoPictorial Wraps. Condición: Fine. First Thus. Australian Bush Recitations - Collected by Bill Bowyang - No. 3 - (Front Cover Title: On The Track With Bill Bowyang - by Hugh Anderson, with Australian Bush Recitations, Edited by Dawn Anderson - PART THREE). Uncommon collection of Australian bush poetry. No date (Note: RECENT REPRINT, circa 1991). On The Track With Bill Bowyang is complete in six parts. This is PART THREE only. Each part contains its own introduction by Bill Bowyang. From the introduction (for No. 1): "I present this slim booklet to the public, knowing only too well that during recent years there has been an increasing demand for the recitations that were recited in the bush places in the early days. During the past 15 years I have devoted much time to the collecting of these verses, and it has not been an easy task. Some have been found in old scrap books, and others are remembered in a sort of way by old-timers, but their memory is faulty, and the recitations suffer in consequence, still I have included them in this book. There are at least half-a-dozen recitations, written by forgotten bush bards, that are seeing print for the first time". From the introduction (for No. 2): "The splendid reception my last book of Australian bush recitations received has persuaded me to issue another collection of these rare poems, recited in the bush places in the early days". From Australian Dictionary of Biography online: "Alexander Vindex Vennard (1884-1947), journalist, was born in 1884 at Vindex station, near Winton, Queensland. He contributed articles to Cummins & Campbell's Monthly Magazine, and a regular column 'On the Track' for the North Queensland Register, Townsville, for about twenty-five years. He adopted the pseudonym 'Bill Bowyang' after the straps buckled over trousers below the knees. Collecting yarns, ballads and anecdotes about bush life, and gathering contributions from readers, Vennard published, in addition to his column, at least nine booklets of 'bush recitations'". Printed in Australia. Bound in publisher's original orange pictorial wraps. A LIKE NEW very nice clean tight solid softcover copy. Pagination continues consecutively through each part. This part is paginated 169-234pp. Scarce 1991 reprint. SB-1.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Not Issued. 1st Edition. Gray cloth, lettered/decorated in brown, blue, and red. 1st ed.: Nov. 1900. 105 pp., illus., with supplementary data slip mounted on rear blank (p. [105]). Cover cloth modestly foxed, with tanning to spine panel. Both boards slightly bowed. Corners rubbed with slight exposure, a bit more pronounced to bottom rear corner. Upper front flyleaf shows period inked signature of Nat Schmulowitz, a San Francisco attorney, civic leader, humanitarian, and bibliophile who graduated from Berkeley in 1910 (beneath his signature is penned "U.C. 1910"). Schmulowitz is perhaps best remembered as one of a team of lawyers who successfully defended Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle on charges of manslaughter in three separate trials in 1921-22; his humor collection, established in 1947 and encompassing more than 23,000 volumes, resides at the San Francisco Public Library. This volume was issued in Nov. 1900, apparently just days prior to the infamous "Glasshouse disaster" that occurred at the 10th annual game on 29 Nov. of that year, the greatest loss of spectator life in the history of American sports. A decently preserved copy showing wear commensurate with age but no major faults. Exceptionally scarce. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

Añadir al carrito[TRADE CATALOG]. First edition. 11" x 8 1/2" in light gray printed wrappers with raised title in green. 16pp. [273]-286. Illustrations. Foreword. Uncommon catalog of equipment which played a crucial role in road building driven by the Good Roads Movement during the opening decades of the 20th century. Western Wheeled Scraper Co. had in 1904 perfected dump cars with 12 cubic yard capacity operated by air, and these became the backbone of earth moving operations both in railroad line building and road building across the country. This catalog advertises their industrial railways, aggregate loaders, material bins, dump cars, mixers feeding the batch boxes, the Western batch box direct-charging system, etc. Offers information on placing Western Industrial track along with diagram plans for doing so. Also laid in Bulletin 19-B, Western Dump Wagon, which touts their Western Dump Wagons, with steel-reinforced and extra wide wheels. In 1901, the Western Wheeled Scraper Co. and the F.C. Austin Manufacturing had formed a selling corporation known as Austin-Western Road Machinery Co. The company specialized initially in building scrapers. In 1916, President Wilson signed the Federal Aid Road Act enabling America to embark on a truly national highway and road construction campaign that continued to the end of the 1920s. Light soiling to pages and wrappers along with shelf label at upper left fore-edge, stamp for Contractors Machinery & Storage Co., and with rubbing to spine and light wear to the extremities. Still very good.
