viii, 9-313 pages. Hardcover: H 15.25cm x L 10.25cm. Original brown cloth stained and rubbed; bumping and wear at board corners, slight fraying at spine ends, spine's gilt stamping quite dulled and difficult to discern. Toning and soiling to edges; toning to front and rear free endpapers; pencil scribbling on front pastedown; ow…nership inscription dated 1870 in pencil on front free endpaper; same owner's ink name stamps on ffep verso, front flyleaf recto, and rear free endpaper; pencil signatures/inscription repeated on ffly, title page, page v, and on rfep; 1869 pencil inscription of different individual on rear flyleaf verso; moisture staining, foxing, and toning throughout. Binding is firm. A good copy. Evidently a rather scarce antebellum Nashville, Tennessee imprint for OCLC cites only six member institutions with copies of this 1857 edition. One of the great theologians and intellects of the Methodist Church, Thomas O. Summers (1812-1882) was elected in 1850 by the general conference as editor of all church books and tracts. From 1866 to 1878 he was editor of the weekly newspaper [Nashville] Christian Advocate. Reverend Summers was professor of systemic theology at Vanderbilt University beginning in 1874 and was dean of the theological faculty from 1875 until his death in 1882. ILLUSTRATIONS OF LYING, IN ALL ITS BRANCHES was first published in London in 1825 by British novelist Amelia Opie. This edition features Summers' "Editorial Note" on page v in which he lauds Opie's book as an English classic and that it has been "edited with care, inserting an occasional note, the reasons for which will be clear to the reader." M.E. Church, South published a second edition in 1897.

Condición: Sehr gut. [Limited] Signed Edition (6/100). 28 x 28 cm. 127 pages. Original decorated paper covered boards. Hard cover. Fine, close to new condition. AMELIA STEIN CV 2021 Born in Dublin, Ireland 1958. Elected a member of the RHA in 2004, the first photographer elected as an Artist Member (The Royal Hibernian Academy i…s an artist-based and artist-oriented institution in Ireland, founded in Dublin in 1823). Elected the first female photographer to Aosdána in 2006 ( Aosdána, founded in 1981, honours artists whose work has made an outstanding contribution to the creative arts in Ireland). The Photographer Amelia Stein's black and white photographs pursue character and the constituent elements that create them. Absence and the passage of time is a recurring theme. Described as a portrait photographer, her work is not confined to the figure or facial studies but the wider meaning of portraiture, from the conventional face to the breath of wider open landscapes, from small intimate details to the landscape on the grand scale . Though meticulously composed in the camera her practice gives equal emphasis to the subtleties of the darkroom and meticulous attention to detail in printing. Work is represented in the collections of The National Gallery of Ireland, IMMA ( Irish Museum of Modern Art ), the Arts Council of Ireland and have been on view in solo and group shows in both Public and Private venues to the present day. Formerly as a performing arts photographer, Stein worked in Theatre and Opera in Ireland 1979-2000. Currently she divides her time between Dublin and North Mayo . (Source Amelia Stein Web Site).
