The book has mild rubbing and smudging most notable on the back cover, a shifted spine, light foxing to the top edge of the textblock, minor shelfwear to the edges and corners of the covers, a slightly loose front hinge, smudging and toning to the interior of the covers and endpages, gentle cracking in the binding to page 48-49, light foxing to the margins of few pages throughout, and overall aging to the pages, otherwise this book is in very good condition considering its age with unmarked pages, a tight binding, and strong, attractive cover.

Covers are very clean and intact except for fading and discoloration on front, back, and spine; light rubbing; slight wear to extremities; and a few small marks. A Very Good copy. Author Anna C. Brackett instructs readers (her target audience being women who are overwhelmed with daily domestic tasks) on how to find rest and work-life balance in their busy lives. Chapter titles: "Rest," "Necessity," "Freedom," "Restlessness," and "Blue-Rose Melancholy." On Page 14, Brackett writes, "Rest you cannot compass till you have secured harmony of the internal and external conditions of your life, whatever that life may be. The question is always which of these conditions you can change. It may be possible, of course, that both are capable of modification. If so, the problem comes more complicated. If, however, you decide, after a careful review of all the outside circumstances, that they cannot be altered, then your task is to mould your own mind into harmony with those conditions." She elaborates further and says that the outside world is always in motion and characterized by change and that the only domain that one has free reign over is their inner world or mind. She recommends having a "cool intellect" to distance oneself from external situations so as to better assess them objectively. On the subject of social pressures, Brackett advocates for one's independence and not to accept others' advice too freely. She likens a blind acceptance of passing advice or criticism to slavery. She states, "But we forget that the greater majority is an invisible one, and that it may be safer to side with that." She encourages women to make their own decisions about fashion trends, to read the highest quality of material that will add to their knowledge or is of interest to them, and to avoid reading simply for the sake of it. Brackett also advises that one should not be afraid of challenging oneself or trying new experiences out of a fear of failure.
