There are two (different) plate No. XV, as well as plates XXXV no. 1 and XXXV no. 2, numbering of plates ends at XC. This is as original and authentic as you are liekly to find for this title. The plates, which are said to frequently be present in a separate volume, are here bound-in at the rear of the book. The bookplate and signature are those of James Dalliba, a West Poiunt graduate of 1811 who served in the Army in various capacities and campaigns until he retired in 1824, when he went into the iron business at the age of about 39 with a fellow named John Dickerson. Although appearing rough, this copy is tight, lightly foxed and overall in lovely original condition. And rare in any condition, especially with aall the plates present. All references found refer to the volume as having 41 plates, no mention is made of two different plate No. 15. No copies found for sale or at auction of this edition, with or without plates. "Published by order of the War Department"/ Adapted, by Winfield Scott and a board of officers, from Rules and regulations for the field exercise and manoeuvres of the French infantry, by Irenée Amelot de Lacroix, as translated by Lt.-Col. John Macdonald./ Major General Winfield Scott, president of the Board of officers for "modifying the Rules and regulations for the field service and manoeuvres of the French infantry, so as to enable them to correspond with the organization of the army of the United States."/ The first plate signed: J.D. Stout; 2 plates for 35: Plate XXXV. no. 1, XXXV. no. 2./ "An explanation of the plates . ": pages [321]-351." Sabin 74079. Good generally PLEASE READ: Binding and book cleanly broken at pages 120 / 121, and the folded engravings at rear are haphazzardly folded and foxed on occassion, with one significant tear noted but no loss of text or imagery. This book is as raw and original as you will find, with original owqner bookplate inside front cover and owner signature at top of second preliminary sheet after title-page, as well as minor manuscript notes at the bottom of page 5. First edition. Inscribed on the title page "E.W. Laight from General Swift, 1815" (probably in the hand of the recipient). Joseph Gardner Swift (1783-1865) was promoted to brigadier-general for service during the War of 1812, became the army's chief engineer, and was superintendent of West Point, 1816-1818. This manual was accompanied by an atlas of 41 plates, not present here.
