Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a comprehensive study of the major sources from which the medieval German poet Rudolf von Ems drew inspiration for his epic poem 'Alexander'. The author focuses on the works of three ancient historians: Leo the Archpriest of Naples, Curtius Rufus, and Josephus, as well as the biblical writings. By examining the ways in which Rudolf adapted and transformed these sources, the book provides insights into the creative process of a medieval poet and the literary and historical contexts in which he worked. Ultimately, the book sheds light on the vibrant exchange between classical and medieval literature and the enduring fascination with the figure of Alexander the Great. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …
