Añadir al carrito8vo, pp. [3]-48; bound without the half title; some later pencil lines in margin, but not disfiguring; early MS price 'pr. 06' (presumably 6d) at top right hand corner of title page; in 19th century roan-backed marbled boards. Second edition. This is partly a reissue of the original edition: only the early gatherings, perhaps as far as sig. D (p. 32) are reset, and the rest is apparently a reprint from standing type see, for instance, the running-title on p. 44, where, in both editions, the L in 'A Letter to' is crammed up against the rule at the head of the page. The first edition was published soon after 17 May 1712, and this printing presumably followed very soon after that. Neither Teerink-Scouten nor ESTC seem to be aware that part of this edition is the same as the first. Teerink-Scouten 577; Alston III 220.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - ''A Proposal For Correcting, Improving And Ascertaining The English Tongue: In A Letter To The Most Honorable Robert Earl Of Oxford And Mortimer, Lord High Treasurer Of Great Britain'' is a book written by Jonathan Swift in 1712. The book is a letter addressed to the Earl of Oxford and Mortimer, who was the Lord High Treasurer of Great Britain at the time. In the letter, Swift proposes a plan for correcting, improving, and ascertaining the English language. He argues that the English language is in a state of disarray, with no clear rules or standards, and that this is hindering its use and development. Swift proposes a number of specific measures to address this problem, including the establishment of a language academy and the creation of a standard dictionary. He also suggests that the government should take an active role in promoting the use of correct English, and that schools should be required to teach it properly. Overall, ''A Proposal For Correcting, Improving And Ascertaining The English Tongue'' is a significant work in the history of English language and linguistics, and remains relevant today as a call for greater clarity and consistency in the use of the language. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
