Quarto format, blind-ruled front cover, lettering to two-tone brown leather. 59 pp., and with 32 illustrations from original wood-blocks by John and Thomas Bewick. New endpapers front and rear, quite bright, and only mild toning to text-block. Thomas Bewick (c. 11 August 1753 ? 8 November 1828), son of John Bewick, was an English wood-engraver and natural history author, justly famous for his wood-block engravings, especially of birds and natural history, A History of Quadrupeds and A History of British Birds being roundly considered his magnna opuses. He pioneered, says his Wikipedia entry, the use of metal-engraving tools "to cut hard boxwood across the grain, producing printing blocks that could be integrated with metal type" . . . 59 pp. and including a full index and list of works exhibited.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
