Pagine ad ampio margine brunite dal tempo in particolare ai tagli e sporadicamente fiorite con rare evidenziature e piccole note di margine a matita colorata. Bordi a barbe cotti e logorati -non impedenti la fruibilità-. Numerazione delle pagine consecutiva tra le uscite. Numero pagine complessive 303.

Text. franz. 1750 verfasste Diderot einen in ganz Europa verschickten Prospekt, in dem er Interessenten zur Subskription der Encyclopédie aufrief. 1751 erschienen die beiden ersten Bände der «Encyclopédie.». Der buchhändlerische Erfolg des Werkes war enorm, doch die Jesuiten und die Sorbonne diagnostizierten eine unchristliche Tendenz und erwirkten beim königlichen Kronrat ein Verbot. Da aber Madame de Pompadour (die Mätresse von Ludwig XV.), einige Minister, viele einflussreiche Freimaurer und der Chefzensor Malesherbes auf der Seite der Encyclopédisten standen, konnten 1753?1756 trotz des Verbots vier weitere Bände erscheinen.Danach jedoch wuchs der Druck der Gegner. 1758 wurde das Verbot erneuert, 1759 setzte Papst Clemens XIII. das Werk auf den Index. Inzwischen hatte aber die Regierung die Deviseneinnahmen schätzen gelernt, die trotz des Siebenjährigen Krieges (1756?1763) durch den Verkauf der Encyclopédie aus ganz Europa hereinkamen, und man ermutigte Diderot unter der Hand zum Weitermachen. Er brachte die letzten zehn Bände samt fünf Bänden Abbildungen heraus (1765). 1100 gr. Schlagworte: Grafik - vor 1800.

Reliure unifome d'époque en demi-cuir rouge à coins, dos décorés et avec titres. Bel exemplaires avec les reliures en parfait état. Intérieur sans rousseurs ni tâches. Il y a seulement des légères décharges des coins à cuir sur le pages de garde blanche. Exemplaires presque parfait. En 1812 füt publié un supplement de 2 volumes ( pas présent ici). L'auteur (1719 - 1792) était en possesion des dessins originaux qu'on utilisait pour l'illustration de ce livre. Ils sont probablement de la main des anglais George Henry Mason and William Alexander. Le livre est recherché pour la qualité de ses illustrations. Il est annoncé pour une publique des enfants, Il contient comme dernière illustration un chinois qu'on torturait en écrasant ses doigt. Les moers et la sensibilité ont bien changé !.
