Erste Ausgabe. Blumenfeld (1864-1947), Sohn eines nach den USA ausgewanderten "1848ers", leitete von 1902 bis 1932 die britische Tageszeitung "Daily Express". Sein Erinnerungswerk teilt er in zwei Kapitel auf: "What did we do in the Great War" enthält eine Auswahl seiner zwischen 1914 und 1919 wöchentlich veröffentlichten "Brief…e" zum Kriegsgeschehen des Ersten Weltkriegs, die Stimmung im Lande usw. Im zweiten Teil ("Personalities and places") sind meist zuvor ungedruckte, kurze persönliche Skizzen bedeutender Persönlichkeiten (Lord Kitchener, Stanley Baldwin, Winston Churchill, H.G. Wells, Harry Gordon Selfridge, Lord Beaverbrook) und Erinnerungen an "wichtige Orte" (Fleet Street, House of Commons, Westminster Abbey zur Krönung von Georg V., Piccadilly Circus zu viktorianischen Zeiten usw.) wiedergeben. - Zu Beginn gering stockfleckig.
