Hardback. Condición: Good. There was another South in the 1960s, one far removed from the marches and bombings and turmoil in the streets that were broadcast on the evening news. It was a place of inner turmoil, where ordinary people struggled to right themselves on a social landscape that was dramatically shifting beneath their feet. This is the world of Valerie Fraser Luesse's stunning debut, Missing Isaac. It is 1965 when black field hand Isaac Reynolds goes missing from the tiny, unassuming town of Glory, Alabama. The townspeople's reactions range from concern to indifference, but one boy will stop at nothing to find out what happened to his unlikely friend. White, wealthy, and fatherless, young Pete McLean has nothing to gain and everything to lose in his relentless search for Isaac. In the process, he will discover much more than he bargained for. Before it's all over, Pete--and the people he loves most--will have to blur the hard lines of race, class, and religion. And what they discover about themselves may change some of them forever.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. A Book For Kids that are Crazy About Science and Space Jimi and Isaac pester their billionaire buddy Ash Berg into letting them jazz up his space expedition. Ash plays along, knowing they will fail and learn from their failure. Isaac prefers to make a limited but credible effort and claim a limited but credible victory. Jimi takes the challenge seriously and eventually he comes up with something that's not completely stupid. Too bad Jimi's rich friend has forgotten about the whole thing. Maybe Jimi did all that work for nothing. AWARD-WINING Jimi and Isaac Books are focused books for focused kids. They can be read in any order. Pick a first book that matches the kid's interests, and then that kid will trust Jimi and Isaac enough to follow them into another area in another book. In every book, a problem presents itself and the kids need to learn and work to solve the problem. They fail constantly, struggle to recover, and success is often a less limited failure. The books are short and fast moving so more readers can succeed, but they are not simple books. They're full of information and intellectual challenges.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. A Book For Kids that are Crazy About Science and Inventing Isaac Farmer figured the best way to win the science fair was to make the judges think he could save the planet, so he did this big display on green stuff. He put in everything he could think of (like solar power and wind power and stream power and outhouse power) and made it sound like it all worked and he understood everything. All he really did was copy stuff off the Internet. It fooled the judges and he won, but then the adults in his world got involved and Isaac had to actually build something that actually worked. He finds out that science is as much about working with other people as it is about working with things, and that's not an easy lesson for Isaac. AWARD-WINING Jimi and Isaac Books are focused books for focused kids. They can be read in any order. Pick a first book that matches the kid's interests, and then that kid will trust Jimi and Isaac enough to follow them into another area in another book. Paperback. Condición: Good. NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * The riveting true story of the Galveston hurricane of 1900, still the deadliest natural disaster in American history--from the acclaimed author of The Devil in the White City "A gripping account . fascinating to its core, and all the more compelling for being true." --The New York Times Book ReviewSeptember 8, 1900, began innocently in the seaside town of Galveston, Texas. Even Isaac Cline, resident meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Bureau failed to grasp the true meaning of the strange deep-sea swells and peculiar winds that greeted the city that morning. Mere hours later, Galveston found itself submerged in a monster hurricane that completely destroyed the town and killed over six thousand people--and Isaac Cline found himself the victim of a devastating personal tragedy. Using Cline's own telegrams, letters, and reports, the testimony of scores of survivors, and our latest understanding of the science of hurricanes, Erik Larson builds a chronicle of one man's heroic struggle and fatal miscalculation in the face of a storm of unimaginable magnitude.…

Hardback. Condición: Very Good. Sir Isaac Newton changed the world with his many discoveries and inventions about mathematics, science, optics, and physics. Although he was brilliant, Newton felt no need to publish his ideas or to inform his fellow scientists of the amazing discoveries he made. Because of this, his discoveries were often disputed. Despite the controversy that often surrounded him, Newton made astounding advances in his efforts to understand how nature worked. His legacy lives on through inventions such as microscopes, eyeglasses, telescopes, and cameras. Reynolds, Emily C. S. (ilustrador). …
