Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Language: English. About the Book:-This volume is intended for readers with no previous knowledge of linguistics; it is hoped that no one will have difficulty in reading and understanding all of it. This does not mean that scientific problems have been avoided or that the content of linguistic science has been watered down. The guiding motto of the author has been the quotation from Thomas Huxley on the first page of the introductory chapter: "Science is nothing but trained and organized common sense"; the language of our community, then, should be capable of conveying the science of our community to all its members. Technical terms have generally been avoided if the terminology of ordinary speech would do instead, and such technical terms as seemed necessary have been explained. All foreign words and forms are cited in transcription. Greek is written with Latin letters according to the system development by the Romans. About the Author:-Edgar Howard Sturtevant (March 7, 1875 Ð July 1, 1952) was an American linguist, was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, the older brother of Alfred Sturtevant. He studied at the University of Chicago receiving there in 1901 a Ph.D. with a dissertation on Latin case forms. He became an assistant professor of classical philology at Columbia University in New York before joining the linguistics faculty at Yale University in 1923. In 1924, he was a member of the organizing committee for the founding, with Leonard Bloomfield and George M. Bolling, of the Linguistic Society of America (LSA). He authored the first scientifically acceptable Hittite grammar with a chrestomathy and a glossary, formulated the so-called Sturtevant's law (the doubling of consonants representing Proto-Indo-European voiceless stops) and laid the foundations to what later became the Goetze-Wittmann law. The Title 'AN INTRODUCTION TO LINGUISTIC SCIENCE written/authored/edited by EDGAR H. STURTEVANT', published in the year 2021. The ISBN 9788121223133 is assigned to the Paperback version of this title. This book has total of pp. 185 (Pages). The publisher of this title is Gyan Publishing House. This Book is in English.
