Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Commercial photo album. Oblong quarto (about 15" x 11"). Bound with a metal clamp in leather over boards, with white silk pastedowns. The album consists of 28 double-sided cardboard leaves with cut-out gilt frames containing 124 platinum prints mounted in the frames. There are 100 large prints mounted in 6" x 4.25" frames, and 24 smaller prints mounted in 4.5" x 3.5" frames. Less than half of the photographs are identified in the print at the bottom margin. The leather is worn at the edges, lacking the spine back, both boards are detached, else very good. A late 19th Century family photo album notable for its nautical images and landscape views taken in and around Whitehall, New York, the birthplace of the U.S. Navy. The album includes images of the southern end of Lake Champlain at Whitehall and other lakes in Vermont and Maine; together with images of the Hudson River along the Highlands at West Point and New York Harbor. A photograph of the headstone for George W. Douglass (1830-1894) and his wife at the Brick Church Cemetery in Whitehall presumably identifies the family members in the album as part of the Douglass family. Included among the portraits and snapshots are a few images of a boy dressed in a naval uniform, and several nautical images are interspersed throughout the album. Images of the Hudson River include Storm King and West Point, there is a view of a tall ship "off 23rd St." on the East River, and images of New York Harbor include Governors Island and Statue of Liberty. Images taken in New York City include sailors and marines at the [Admiral] Dewey Land Parade (September 30, 1899) together with images of a newly erected Arch: "To the glory of the American Navy and in Greeting to our Admiral". Also included among the images taken in Upstate New York, Vermont, and Maine are various small towns: (Monticello and Liberty Falls, New York; Kingsbury and Portland, Maine); and landscape views of Lake St. Catherine and Lake Bomoseen in Vermont. An intriguing assemblage of high quality platinum prints.
