Fractal is amodular and extensible component model that can be used with variousprogramming languages to design, implement, deploy and reconfigurevarious systems and applications, from operating systems to middlewareplatforms and to graphical user interfaces. The goal of Fractal is toreduce the development, deployment and maintenance costs of softwaresystems in general, and of OW2 projects in particular. The Fractal modelalready uses some well known design patterns, such as separation ofinterface and implementation and, more generally, separation ofconcerns, in order to achieve this goal. There is also ongoing researchwork to get even closer to this goal. Fractal is hosted and developed bythe OW2 consortium. It is distributed under the LGPL open-sourcelicense.

Squish is a commercial, functional, cross-platform GUI and regression testing tool that can test applications based on a variety of GUI technologies. Squish is developed and maintained by Froglogic. Version 1.0 was released in 2003/11/18, the latest feature release is 4.2. Squish uses property-based object identification, and is able to record and replay test scripts written in JavaScript, Perl, Python, Ruby or Tcl. It is a two-component system, consisting of a runner, which interprets and executes scripts, and a server, which hooks in and controls the application under test. Server and runner communicate via network, using a proprietary protocol. Both components are completely cross-platform, and work on Windows, Linux/Unix, Mac OS X, iOS and Embedded Linux.

Pseudolocalization is a software testing method that is used to test internationalization aspects of software. Specifically, it brings to light potential difficulties with localization by replacing localizable text with text that imitates the most problematic characteristics of text from a wide variety of languages, and by forcing the application to deal with similar input text. If used properly, it provides a cheap but effective sanity test for localizability that can be helpful in the early stages of a software project.

In computerscience, GUI software testing is the process of testing a product thatuses a graphical user interface, to ensure it meets its writtenspecifications. This is normally done through the use of a variety oftest cases. To generate a 'good' set of test cases, the test designersmust be certain that their suite covers all the functionality of thesystem and also has to be sure that the suite fully exercises the GUIitself. The difficulty in accomplishing this task is twofold: one has todeal with domain size and then one has to deal with sequences. Inaddition, the tester faces more difficulty when they have to doregression testing.
