The plates fold out for ease of reference, (creased along the folds and dust marked and creased on edges), has a new ffep. Overall the text is clean.Comments: published by one of the important British Classical publishers of the the 18th Century. Publication of this edition was overseen by Andrew, son of Robert Foulis who took over the firm after the death of his brother, the older Andrew Foulis. The press was already struggling financially during this period. Robert Simson (1687 - 1768), attended the University of Glasgow in 1702 at age 14, studied classics and oriental languages, later pursued interests in mathematics especially of the early Greeks. In 1711 was appointed Professor of Mathematics at Glasgow University, devoting much energy to restoring and editing the works of the early Greek geometers. His first edition of Euclid's elements was published in 1756, was immensely successful, becoming for many years the standard work, being republished in various editions as late as 1944. Condition: GOOD. Collated complete. Binding tight and secure. Some rubbing and abrasions to covers, lacking spine title-plate. The textblock very well-preserved. Front endpaper shortened at fore edge. Pastedowns with some inking. An excellent copy.

Books one through six, and books eleven and twelve included in this volume. With three additional works added (included in the pagination, but with separate title pages): "Notes Critical and Geometrical", and "Euclid's Data" both by Stimson and both dated 1794 and The Elements of Plain and Spherical Trigonometry also dated 1794. A handsome edition of Euclid's Elements with attractive typography. Very Good or better with light wear to the boards, nicely rebacked with the original spine laid down. Small bookplate of Sir Thomas Winnington on front pastedown and "T. Winnington Ch Ch" (Christ's Church, Oxford) stamped on free front endpaper.
