Hardcover. Condición: Poor. The covers are detached, but present, and the leather has worn away. The binding is worn and torn at the foot, but intact with gilt ruling and lettering. No publication date, but circa 1860s. 1,027 pages with 12 plates of steel engravings with tissue guards, including a frontispiece illustration of Shakespeare. The frontispiece portrait of Shakespeare and one page containing an engraving have a bit of foxing not affecting the images. The rest of the pages and illustrations are free of foxing. Page 320 has the upper corner torn away (does not affect text). A readable copy despite the condition of the detached covers.

Leather is cuffed and corners are exposed, spine is cracked and edges are torn. Gilt lettering and decoration partly visible. Embossed basket weave pattern on front and rear boards. Foxing throughout, very little marginalia. Frontispiece depicts the world and plays of William Shakespeare, and facing page has an image from The Tempest. There are engraved plates periodically, depicting the best-known plays. This volume includes Henry VI, Richard III, Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, Cymbeline, Titus Andronicus, Pericles, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Othello. Hardcover, acceptable condition. 478 pages plus glossary, octavo.

Includes a Memoir by Alexander Chalmers, A.M. Leather on spine missing. Front and back boards nicely reattached with nylon thread. Boards worn some at corners and edges. Full-Leather. Condición: Near Fine. No Jacket. A former owners name and Feb 14, 1860 on the second blank page. One of the pages has a 2" corner torn at the bottom. The piece is wrinkled and dirty but is still attached. All is present and easily fixed. The neighboring tissue (for the next plate) is torn in the same manner. 924 pages with gold edges. Illustrated with engravings. Embossed brown leather with heavy raised bands (skids) on the spine. Gold lettering is bright. One minor puncture in the leather on the spine shaped as a partial half circle about 1/2" in length. No all the way through. The leather covers has some wear at the edges but is very clean and nice looking. The finish is not worn off the leather on the flat surfaces of the covers or the spine. A beautiful book.

Two-volume set; both volumes have former owner's name and date of 1865, and ornamental stamp with his name; back end pages of Vol. I have some penciled notations and one of them is loose, chipped at edges; some upper edges have stains. Paper fine and strong, foxed but unchipped; quite wonderful engravings throughout. Leather binding scuffed and bumped, with gilt gravevine ornamentation and lettering on black patches on spines still bright, although some ornamentation is effaced at rubbed edges. Binding firm on Vol. I, but front board of Vol. II is detached--text blocks of both vos. intact and firm. Needs and deserves expert repair and price lowered to accomodate this.
