Paperback. Condición: Very Good. The second edition of this successful book has been extensively revised and updated. It now incorporates the considerable range of further contributions to debates in class and stratification which have emerged since the first edition of this book was published in 1993. While many of these have asserted that 'class is dead', Crompton argues that class is very much alive. Thus 'postmodern' theories of 'post-class' societies are critically examined, as are the most recent contributions of quantitative sociological approaches such as those of Goldthorpe and Wright. It is argued that despite their theoretical differences, the work of these two authors has been undergoing a process of convergence in recent years. One feature which belies the 'death' of class is the contemporary increase in the extent of social and material inequality. This topic, therefore, is explored at some length, as are other areas including gender and the feminization of the middle classes, the significance of recent changes in work and employment, consumption and citizenship. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Inequality in its many forms is becoming an ever greater problem in modern society. The revised edition of this popular book explains why it is so important to understand class and stratification, and how the tools used to analyse these divisions can help us to understand and confront problems of inequality. This third edition of Class and Stratification has been extensively revised, expanded and updated, incorporating discussions of contemporary economic and social change. It includes discussions of political and economic neoliberalism and its impacts as well as developments in social theory, such as the emphasis on 'individualization' and the 'cultural turn'. New to this edition is a chapter focusing on 'cultural' approaches to class analysis, which together with established approaches are used to explore new developments in social mobility, educational opportunity, and social polarization. The book will be essential reading for upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate students in the social sciences seeking to understand the changing face of social inequality. By highlighting the damage increasing inequality is causing to the social fabric, the book reveals the important part class continues to play in our lives today. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.…
