He undertook a methodical study of ferronickels and showed that with 36 percent nickel, one obtained an alloy, which he called invar that expanded ten times less than iron and that even possessed a zero coefficient of dilation after appropriate tempering, drawing and rolling. This alloy immediately found numerous applications, particularly in clockmaking. He also helped to solve another problem : compensation in ordinary watches. J.] Nicoll et Doucet, d'un permis de chasse (août 1898), d'un fusil à l'armurerie Weil; les frais de réparation de sa bicyclette; etc. - des sommes versées pour des voyages et excusions en Bretagne, en Suisse, à Nice, ou encore en Italie.
