This series intends to summarize each chapter of the Bible and help readers understand God's story piece by piece. The Book of 1 Samuel is a historical narrative documenting Israel's change in leadership structure from Judges to Kings. It begins with Hannah praying for a child at the Tabernacle. God answered Hannah's prayer, giving her a son, Samuel, who she dedicated back to the Lord. Samuel grew up to be a mighty man of God and one of the most well-known judges of Israel. It was during the days of Samuel that the citizens grew restless and demanded a king. They didn't want to be ruled by judges anymore but wanted a king like all the other nations. God warned them against this path, but He eventually granted their request and appointed Saul as the first King of Israel. Saul's reigned started off well, but when his heart grew proud, he disobeyed the Lord, and God rejected him as king. Saul was to be replaced by David, a young shepherd boy from Bethlehem. After being anointed as Saul's replacement, David became famous by killing Goliath the giant. David's fame made Saul jealous, and he determined to have David killed. He spent the rest of his life hunting David, but ultimately failed. Saul's death is recorded in the last chapter of 1 Samuel. He and his sons were killed fighting with the Philistines at Mount Gilboa. The close of 1 Samuel sets the stage for David's 40-year reign as king, and launches the reader into the intriguing history of the kings of Israel and Judah. This item is printed on demand.
