The chapters are derived from the research papers presented in an International Conference entitled Indigenous People, Human Security and Sustainable Development: Emerging Challenges in the Present Global Context held at Kolkata during 19-21 Jan 2018 organized by Commission of Human Rights, International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) and Department of Anthropology, West Bengal State University, Barasat Kolkata 700 126. The book is a good collection on contemporary research among the indigenous populations of India and Bangladesh. First chapter is devoted to traditional knowledge of ethnomedicine among tribes of India. The chapter is contributed by the scientists and consultant of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Second chapter is jointly contributed by scholars of Poland and India. The central theme focused in this chapter is onset of puberty and nutritional status among female students with aim to evaluate the association between age at menarche and the potential economic (parents occupation status) and social correlates viz. religious and caste system, level of parents education, place of residence, number of children in a family etc. it concluded that age at puberty is affected by economic and nutritional status as well as body weight and the BMI. Chapter 3,4,5,6,7 and 8 are devoted to nutritional status of children and adult of Bangladesh and India. Still in developing countries large proportion of children are undernourished but gradually childhood obesity is also penetrating so there is dual burden of the problem. In these chapters, there is debate and facts about under nutrition as well as malnutrition among the indigenous population of India and Bangladesh. Chapter 9, 10 and 11 are focused n maternal health among indigenous population of India and Bangladesh. Chapter 12 is focused on body composition and physiological function among elderly males of Punjab whereas chapter 13 is highlighting the mortality indicators among particularly vulnerable tribe known as Bharia of Central India. The book can be used as reference book by the student of Anthropology, Economy, Sociology, Pediatrics, Gynaecology, Health Administration and Policy Planning.
