Paperback. Condición: New. Language: English. About The Book: Remarks on the Report of the East India Directors (1785), Richard Twining critiques the East India Company's management of the tea trade. He argues that the Company's opaque accounting and monopolistic practices inflate tea prices, burdening consumers and honest merchants. Twining emphasizes the need for transparency, fairness, and reduction of duties to correct market inefficiencies. He challenges directors' private profiteering and advocates policies aligning the Company's operations with public interest. The pamphlet combines practical trade knowledge with moral reasoning, urging reforms that benefit both merchants and consumers while ensuring ethical administration of the tea trade. About The Author: Richard Twining (17491824) was an English merchant, head of Twinings tea merchants in London, and director of the East India Company. Born to Daniel and Mary Twining, he joined the family tea business at 14 and took sole management in 1782, later joined by his brother John. He played a key role in the tea trade reforms following the Commutation Act (178486), advising William Pitt the Younger. Elected director of the East India Company in 1793, he advocated against directors trading with India and actively participated in company affairs until 1816. A keen traveller, his journals were later published. He died on 23 April 1824.
