Niecks' Frédéric Chopin as Man and Musician (1888) was the first comprehensive Chopin biography, earning him lasting recognition. His scholarly works influenced musicology, especially in Romantic-era studies. Despite his forced return to Germany during WWI, he returned to Edinburgh, where he died. His legacy includes extensive Chopin collections and contributions to music education.
