The design of compact monopoles, suitable for mobile phone use, is discussed with particular emphasis on dual-band monopoles. A suitable dual-band monopole is chosen to be analyzed in detail using the Ansoft High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) package. The HFSS package is introduced and tested on a basic rectangular patch antenna to confirm well known results in the theory and literature. A dual-band monopole antenna is fabricated on a microstrip in the laboratory in both unwrapped form and wrapped form using the Proteus ARES package for automatic construction of the PCB boards. The multiband monopole and the microstrip patch antenna are tested in the laboratory of the University.
