One of the criticalchallenges to making sensor networks more pervasiveand secure is the severe resource constraints.Thisdissertation explores specific security issuesassociated with sensor networks through four relatedthemes. First,a taxonomy of security attacks andcountermeasures for sensor networks along withmethodologies for evaluation and design of securesensor networks is developed. The second themeexplores the issue of insider attacks on fundamentalservices and applications in sensor networks. We lookat the time synchronization service and the objecttracking algorithm.Third theme deals with thesecurity issues facing the applications that usesensor networks. The two important applications thatwe look at are: health care systems, and the processcontrol systems.Fourth, we develop a game theoreticframework to analyze and build a distributedreputation mechanism for sensor networks.
