Añadir al carritopaperback. Condición: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Añadir al carritoLaminated wrappers, 4to, 30 cm, 336 pp, many ills (many in colour). Catalogue of the exhibition held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, 24 November 2001-17 February 2002. From the President's Foreword: "The Dawn of the Floating World' reveals a little-known period of Japanese art. Focusing on the origins of ukiyo-e, it explores its development, from powerful schematic images to full-colour woodblock printing, and describes the rise of a culture concerned with image and style during a fascinating period in the evolution of Edo society. Emblematic of the daily life and literature of the pleasure quarters and entertainment districts of Edo, early ukiyo-e set in motion a wave of image-making that was to shape print production until the end of the Edo period. Painted and printed designs have an intensity that sets them apart from those of later artists of the floating world, such as Utamaro, Hokusai and Hiroshige, and distinguishes them as one of the most accomplished forms of Japanese graphic expression The present exhibition recognises that paintings as well as prints and illustrated books are inherently important to any consideration of the development of ukiyo-e. Many of the qualities that we admire in the prints of pioneer, yet little-known, artists, such as Hishikawa Moronobu and Okumura Masanobu, as well as the masters of the Kaigetsudö and Torii schools, represent splendid moments in the history of early ukiyo-e. The paintings and prints are extremely rare. Many of the prints are known only in unique impressions of great fragility and have never been seen in public before. " Gift inscription on the title-page, otherwise near Fine.

English text.; Paperback.; 22.5 x 30 cm.; 1.6 kg.; 336 pages with colour illustrations.; Used with signs of wear on the exterior and interior. The exterior shows minor edge wear, scuffs and scratches on the front cover, spine and back cover. The exterior text block shows signs of wear. Interior with minor signs of wear.; Catalogue from the exhibition 'The Dawn of the Floating World (1650-1765): Early Ukiyo-e Treasures from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston' held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, 24 November 2001 - 17 February 2002.; This ambitious and ground-breaking publication accompanies an exhibition of selected early 'pictures of the floating world' (ukiyo-e) from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Most of these exceptional paintings, prints and books have never before been shown outside Boston. Written by leading scholars and illustrated throughout in colour, the essays and detailed commentaries in this volume examine the images as vivid records of the leisure pursuits of the townsman class emerging within Japanese feudal society at the time. They discuss the origins, style and technique of early ukiyo-e and describe the history of the Boston collection, 'the finest collection of Asian art under one roof in the world'. Biographies of the artists, a chronology, a glossary and an extensive bibliography add to the value of this account as a standard work of reference.
