The author, a keen observer of the political and social landscape, meticulously dissects the complex web of legal arguments, societal prejudices, and political machinations surrounding this union. Through a series of impassioned letters, the author exposes the hypocrisy of the ruling class, who condemned the marriage on grounds of both propriety and legality. He argues against the notion that a sovereign could not marry a subject, citing historical precedent and demonstrating that such a union posed no threat to national security. He further dismantles the legal arguments used to invalidate the marriage, highlighting the absurdity of laws that sought to restrict the natural right of individuals to choose their partners. The author's eloquent and insightful analysis offers a powerful commentary on the clash between tradition and individual liberty in a period marked by political and social upheaval. This book remains a fascinating exploration of a historical scandal that continues to resonate with modern readers.
