Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Davis, Paul Ilustrador. Prairie City is the social history of a representative midwestern town - a composite of several Oklahoma small towns. Beginning with the "one flashing moment" of the 1889 land run, which opened the "Oklahoma Lands" for white settlement, Angie Debo depicts the struggles of the settlers on the vast prairie to build a community despite seasons of drought, prairie fire, and destitution. Solidly based on historical research, Prairie City chronicles the arrival of the railroad, the growth of political parties and educational institutions, KKK uprisings, the oil boom, the Depression and the New Deal, and the effects of two world wars on small-town America.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. Davis, Paul Ilustrador. Council Oak Books, LTD; Tulsa, Oklahoma; 1944/1985. Hard Cover. Book condition: Fine. Dust jacket condition: Near Fine. Unstated edition, indeterminate printing due to absence of any number line. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket. 8-3/4" tall, 245 numbered pages followed by 8 pages of "Index". This likely Book Club book is in nearly pristine condition: the white cloth exterior is square, extremely clean, free of corner bumps and edge dings with undamaged spine ends; the spine is also undamaged and the silver lettering is flawless; hinges are strong and not damaged in any fashion. Except for an inked name/date/city on the half title page, the interior is perfectly clean and completely free of writing, stray marks and stains; the only paper damage is a 1/2" tear in the blank page in front of the RFEP. Not remaindered or ex-library but likely a Book Club edition--there is no 'slug' on the rear board and no mention anywhere on the jacket of a Book Club, but the lack of a price on the front flap and the lack of any printing history is troubling and suspicious. The dust jacket is intact and is clean and free of chips, stains and fading; it has slight wear at all four corners and 3 tears, all of 1/2" or less. From the front flap: "'Prairie City' depicts the lives of eager young settlers on the vast prairie, their struggles agains drought, prairie fire, destitution, and madness in their effort to build a community. It traces the fate of that community through two world wars, a KKK uprising, an oil boom, and a bank failure, as well as more ordinary small-town events.".

Book itself has white cloth covers with silver lettering on the spine and with Prairie City and a house embossed on the front cover. Dust jacket is protected in an archival quality Brodart cover. Inside of the dust jacket at the top of the spine the jacket is reinforced with library tape. This is not noticeable unless one takes the protective cover off and inspects carefully. This is the story of a small Oklahoma community, Marshall, Oklahoma, which is America in microcosm. Here are the hopes, the fears, the dreams for the future, the development of the civic, social and economic consciousness of a town. A very nice copy.
