Wraps. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket As Issued. Second Printing. THE UNTOLD CAMPAIGN THAT TOOK CONAN FROM WANDERING SWORDSMAN TO KING OF AQUILONIA. A signed copy of De Camp and Carter's novel filling one of the major gaps Robert E. Howard left in Conan's biography: how the wandering Cimmerian overthrew the mad King Numedides and seized the throne of Aquilonia. THE ROAD TO CONAN'S THRONE. Rather than simply presenting Conan as king, Conan the Liberator constructs the campaign that gets him there. Conan becomes commander of a rebellion against Numedides, confronting royal armies, political intrigue, and the sorcerer Thulandra Thuu before reaching the event Howard had established but never fully narrated. The novel was part of Bantam's late-1970s series of authorized new Conan adventures continuing and expanding the Hyborian chronology. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Mass-market paperback in illustrated wraps. 214 pages. Second printing. Bob Larkin's dramatic cover painting depicts Conan enthroned, while Tim Kirk provides the interior illustrations. The front wrapper identifies the book as one of 'The Authorized New Adventures of Robert E. Howard's Conan.' The original cover price is $2.50. CONDITION: Very Good. The binding is tight and square. Text is clean with light, even age-toning. Moderate shelf-handling wear to the wrappers, including rubbing and light edge and corner wear. Spine remains intact and readable. Despite the exterior handling, the book appears unread. LITERARY SIGNIFICANCE: FILLING A GAP HOWARD LEFT BEHIND. Robert E. Howard established that Conan eventually became king of Aquilonia, but he never wrote the sustained narrative of the rebellion and conquest that brought him to the throne. In Howard's chronology, the transition is largely retrospective: Conan killed Numedides and took his crown. De Camp and Carter turned that unexplored episode into a full novel, making Conan the Liberator an important piece of the expanded Conan chronology. The story connects Conan's earlier career as adventurer, mercenary, and outlaw with the king encountered in Howard's later tales. Its events overlap with Howard's unfinished 'Wolves Beyond the Border' and lead toward the kingship established in 'The Phoenix on the Sword.' SUBJECTS: Conan the Barbarian, L.
