This guidebook provides a comprehensive overview of a model of cannon carriage implemented by the US military throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The guide first outlines the physical components of the disappearing carriage and cannon, including the gun, traversing roller system, racer chassis, top carriage, recoil and counterweight system, traversing, elevating, and sighting mechanisms. The author goes on to offer detailed assembly instructions for each component and provides a maintenance schedule for soldiers to follow. The guide also includes safety guidelines for operating the carriage and cannon. Although it is a highly technical manual, the author presents the information in a clear and concise manner. Readers with an interest in military history and weaponry will find this book an indispensable manual.
