Añadir al carritoCondición: Used. In the seventh installment of Terry Pratchett?s absurdly delightful Discworld series, we are whisked away?not on a magic carpet, mind you, but perhaps on the back of a rather confused camel?into the enigmatic realm of pyramids. Yes, those grand, triangular constructions that have long puzzled the likes of historians, archaeologists, and anyone who has ever been subjected to a game of trivia at a particularly dull pub. Here, Pratchett takes us on a rollicking ride through a land that is possibly more sand than substance, where the sphinxes are rolling their eyes and the mummies have more personality than most modern politicians. Our protagonist, a certain hapless character named Brutha, is not your average hero. In fact, if there were an award for being unremarkably unheroic, he would likely win it?if, of course, he could be bothered to turn up for the ceremony. He is, however, blessed (or perhaps cursed) with a rather peculiar ability: he can recall anything he?s ever read, which, given the state of the library back home, mostly consists of recipes for various types of stew. As Brutha bumbles along, he inadvertently becomes embroiled in a cosmic battle involving gods, ancient prophecies, and the occasional existential crisis that accompanies finding one?s purpose, particularly when that purpose seems to involve an inordinate amount of sand and a pyramid scheme, quite literally. Pyramids also introduces us to a delightful cast of characters who could easily be mistaken for a particularly eccentric family reunion. There?s the ever-charming god Om, who takes on the rather unique form of a tortoise?because, after all, why wouldn?t a deity choose to be a slow-moving creature with a penchant for self-reflection? Then we have the priests, who are less like the mystical custodians of sacred knowledge and more like a group of individuals who have taken "spiritual advisor" to an all-time low, competing primarily in how many times they can chant ?sphinx? while dodging the consequences of their own blunders. As if that wasn?t enough, we are also treated to a glimpse into the workings of an ancient society that takes the concept of bureaucracy to dizzying new heights?or depths, depending on your perspective. The sheer absurdity of it all is enough to make one question whether the real purpose of the pyramids was to house pharaohs or simply to provide a really good reason for a raucous game of charades gone terribly wrong. With Pratchett?s trademark wit and keen observational humor, readers are given a front-row seat to a world where the mundane collides with the mystical, creating a narrative that is as chaotic as it is entertaining. The narrative is laced with social commentary, puns, and more footnotes than you could shake a wand at?because who doesn?t love a good footnote that diverges into an entirely different topic altogether? The writing is so clever that you may find yourself pausing to contemplate the very nature of reality, or at least the nature of your last few purchases at the local second-hand shop. Condition: Used?this copy of Pyramids has clearly been well-loved, with dog-eared pages and the occasional coffee stain that suggests a reader who enjoyed their beverage while contemplating life?s great mysteries. While the spine may show signs of wear, much like Brutha?s patience with divine intervention, you will find that the words within are as sharp as ever. There may be annotations from previous readers, adding layers of hilarity and insight that are entirely unintentional. If you?re seeking an escape from the drudgery of everyday life?or simply want to understand why on earth one would build a pyramid in the first place?this book promises to be as entertaining as it is bewildering. Who knew that a mere story could contain such a wealth of absurdity? And where better to find it than at Crappy Old Books, where we celebrate the beautifully imperfect world of second-hand literature? THIS BOOK BEARS THE CRAPPY OLD BOOKS STAMP. IF THAT IS UNDESIRABLE PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS. THE STAMP MARKS WHICH IS USUALLY TO THE FRONT AND BACK INNER PAGES SAYS SOLD BY CRAPPY OLD BOOKS WITH WEB SITE URL. IT IN NO WAY DEMINISHED FROM THE READING. IF YOU WANT A PRISTINE BOOK, PLEASE FIND ANOTHER BOOK IN BETTER CONDITION SOMEWHERE ELSE.
