Pictorial green cloth (no dust jacket was issued - the American edition had a pasted on pictorial cover), top edge green, pictorial endpapers, pages are xxix, [1], 224. 13 colour plates with printed tissue guards, as called for, and 51 black and white illustrations, some full page down to vignettes. Foxing to the first few leaves and the last two (including endpapers), very small black mark on rear boards, otherwise this is a fine copy, about the best you are likely to find. A near fine copy of the 3rd printing of the first Rackham edition, in the very scarce dust wrapper. Produced 2 years after the first issue was published. The book is in the original decorative cloth binding with tipped-in frontispiece and 50 tipped-in illustrations bound at the rear. The binding is in very bright near fine condition with slight pulling to spine ends and very slight rubbing to the cloth on the back board (only visible viewed on the slant). Page edges greened matching the stock paper used for the plates and the endpapers. There is the remains of an old label on the front pastedown endpaper. Contents complete and in fine clean condition. The wrapper is complete. It has browning to the spine and some edge nibbles with a couple of small tears along the bottom edge of the back panel. There is an area of loss on the top edge of the back panel close to the spine and an old crease running from that diagonally towards the bottom corner. Contains 15 color illustrations, inserted on brown pages, as well as black and white drawings. The interior is very clean and bindings are tight; very minor scuffing to one bottom corner.
