These include homeland security - plications, sensor/pervasive computing applications, various kinds of m…o- toring applications, and even traditional applications belonging to nancial, computer network management, and telecommunication domains. These - plications need to process data continuously (and as long as data is available) from one or more sources. The sequence of data items continuously gen- ated by sources is termed a data stream. Because of the possible never-ending nature of a data stream, the amount of data to be processed is likely to be unbounded. In addition, timely detection of interesting changes or patterns or aggregations over incoming data is critical for many of these applications. Furthermore, the data arrival rates may uctuate over a period of time and may be bursty at times. For most of these applications, Quality of Service (or QoS) requirements, such as response time, memory usage, and throughput are extremely important. These application requirements make it infeasible to simply load the incoming data streams into a persistent store and process them e ectively using currently available database management techniques.

The field of clinical gastrointe…stinal motility has for decades relied on the measurement of intestinal movements for diagnosis and management of these difficult and enigmatic disorders of gut function. Although computers have increased the speed with which we can measure the movements of the gut, the devices to measure this movement have not changed in over 20 years. In the last 2 years, a new technologic breakthrough has taken place in the measurement of intestinal movement. The technology is called high resolution manometry. Rather than the old 4 and 8 channels systems of measuring pressure, high resolution employs 36 closely spaced solid state pressure transducers. By using this technology, the resolution of gut motor activity is incredible. This allows for better ways of viewing motility using color as pressure. This technology makes for beautiful images of gut motility that we have never seen before. We have made diagnoses that would never have been appreciated with the old technology. High resolution manometry is taking over conventional manometry worldwide and represents a dramatic leap in a long time stagnant area. 104 pp. Englisch.

The overall focus of the UNEP F&T report is to assess the relative importance of different processes/mechanisms affecting the transfer of mercury (Hg) from emission sources to aquatic and terrestrial receptors and provide possible source-receptor relationships. This transfer occurs through atmospheric transport, chemical transformations and subsequent deposition, and involves the intermittent recycling between reservoirs that occurs prior to ultimate removal of Hg from the atmosphere. Understanding the sources, the global Hg transport and fate, and the impact of human activity on the biosphere, requires improved knowledge of Hg movement and transformation in the atmosphere. An improved understanding of Hg emission sources, fate and transport is important if there is to be a focused and concerted effort to set priorities and goals for Hg emission management and reduction at the national, regional and global levels; and to develop and implement such policies and strategies.
