It has given great impulse to indus try but also to fundamental research, including life sciences. Macromolecules are made of sm all molecules known as monomers. The process that brings monomers into polymers is known as polymerization. A fundamental contri bution to the industrial production of polymers, particularly polypropylene and polyethylene, is due to the Nobel prize winners Giulio Natta and Karl Ziegler. The ideas of Ziegler and Natta date back to 1954, and the process has been improved continuously over the years, particularly concerning the design and shaping of the catalysts. Chapter 1 (due to A. Fasano ) is devoted to a review of some results concerning the modelling of the Ziegler- Natta polymerization. The specific ex am pie is the production of polypropilene. The primary goal of this book is to unify and make more widely accessible a vibrant st…ream of research-the theory of semi-feasible computation-that perfectly showcases the richness of, and contrasts between, the central types of complexity. The semi-feasible sets, which are most commonly referred to as the P selective sets, are those sets L for which there is a deterministic polynornial time algorithm that, when given as input any two strings of which at least one belongs to L, will output one of them that is in L. The reason we saythat the semi-feasible sets showcase the contrasts among types of complexity is that it is well-known that many semi-feasible sets have no recursive algorithms (thus their time complexitycannot be upper-bounded by standard time-complexity classes), yet all semi-feasible sets are simple in a wide range of other natural senses. In particular, the semi-feasible sets have small circuits, they are in the extended low hierarchy, and they cannot be NP-complete unless P = NP. The semi-feasible sets are fascinating for many reasons. Decoupling control under the framework of polynomial transfer function and frequency response settings, is included as well as the disturbance decoupling problem. The emphasis here is on special or relatively new compensation schemes such as (true and virtual) feedforward control and disturbance observers, rather than use of feedback control alone. The emission spectra have been extended from 850nm toward the visible and infrared regions. This book project was initiated to provide important information on VCSELs, edited by Prof. Herbert Li. Very regrettably, while editing this book he passed away.
