That was not the first time that I had to car ry out engineering geological investigations for several similar projects, which always included testi…ng programmes to find out the permeability of the rock, and often I was in charge of grouting work. It thus attracted my attention when this particular grouting programme did not run as intended: most of the grout holes took only very little grout! It could not be the aim of the invested work simply to drill holes and fill them again without bringing about any further improvement. Fortunately, I had the chance to be en gaged in many other grouting programmes in the following years and used all these examples to analyse as thoroughly as possible the permeability of the rocks being treated in view of their grout ability. The more I studied, the stronger my conviction grew that our rules which had decided the grouting of rock for many de cades should be developed further, and therefore I occupied my self with contributing some ideas for a new basis to investigation and judgment of permeability of rock and for a more adequate application of this technology.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 444 pp. Englisch.

However, because of the progress in computer, LSI, and VLSI technologies, we have now reached a stage when many useful processing tasks can be done in a reasonable amount of time. As a result, research and development activities in image sequence analysis have recently been growing at a rapid pace. An IEEE Computer Society Workshop on Computer Analysis of Time-Varying Imagery was held in Philadelphia, April 5-6, 1979. A related special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Anal ysis and Machine Intelligence was published in November 1980. The IEEE Com puter magazine has also published a special issue on the subject in 1981. The purpose of this book is to survey the field of image sequence analysis and to discuss in depth a number of important selected topics. The seven chap ters fall into two categories. Chapters 2, 3, and 7 are comprehensive surveys on, respectively, the whole field of image sequence analysis, efficient coding of image sequences, and the processing of medical image sequences. It also aims to survey their photoelectrochemistry, both from a material-oriented point of view and as connected to specific processes such as photocatalysis and solar energy conversion. Die jetzt mit dem ersten Band erseheinende 'Einfiihrung in die Teehnisehe Meehanik' behandelt im wesentliehen die Meehanik-Unterstufe, wie sie in Miin chen fiir Masehinen-, Elektro- und Bauingenieure sowie fiir Teehnisehe Physiker bis zur Diplomvorpriifung gelesen wird. Lediglich der im ersten Kapitel definierte Begriff der Versicherungsfunktion wird durchgehend benutzt. Zwecks Unabhängigkeit der einzelnen Kapitel wurden mit Absicht gelegentlich gewisse Aussagen wiederholt.
