Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - For some time there has existed an extensive theoretical literature relating to tides on continental shelves and also to the behavior of estuaries. Much less attention was traditionally paid to the dynamics of longer term, larger scale motions (those which are usually described as circulation') ov…er continental shelves or in enclosed shallow seas such as the North American Great Lakes. This is no longer the case: spurred on by other disciplines, notably biological oceanography, and by public concern with the environment, the physical science of the coastal ocean has made giant strides during the last two decades or so. Today, it is probably fair to say that coastal ocean physics has come of age as a deduc tive quantitative science. A well developed body of theoretical models exist, based on the equations of fluid motion, which have been related to observed currents, sea level variations, water properties, etc. Quantitative parameters required in using the models to predict e.g. the effects of wind or of freshwater influx on coastal currents can be estimated within reasonable bounds of error. While much remains to be learned, and many exciting discoveries presumably await us in the future, the time seems appropriate to summarize those aspects of coastal ocean dynamics relevant to 'circulation' or long term motion.

The achievements made during the first phase of COST-50 were reviewed at the Conference held in Liege, September 25…-27, 1978 and published by Applied Science Publishers Ltd. Nine European Countries : Austria, Belgium, the Federal Republic of Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the Joint Research Center of the Community, agreed to continue their participation in COST-50 and the results of the second phase were presented at the Conference held in Liege, October 4-6, 1982 under the following headings : - Corrosion and Coatings - Fatigue, Creep and Structural Stability - Processing The technical sessions consisted of invited papers reviewing recent progress in the development of high temperature alloys with particular emphasis on the results of the European Collaborative Programme. Furthermore, some areas were reviewed by eminent speakers from the United States of America, due to their expertise in their respective fields. In this context and as a tradition introduced in 1978, the keynote lecture 'Superalloys technology : today and tomorrow' was del ivered by Dr. F. L. Versnyder. The Conference was completed with a significant Poster Session comprising about fifty contributions from Europe and elsewhere. This book comprises a total of fifty four contributions representing almost all of the papers delivered at the technical sessions and a large part of the presentations made at the Poster Session.

The models have special appeal among the non-linear models so far considered in the statistical literature, in that their analysis…is quite tractable. It has been possible to find conditions for stationarity and stability, to derive estimates of the unknown parameters, to establish asymptotic properties of these estimates and to obtain tests of certain hypotheses of interest. Since the publi…cation of the first edition of this book, several important new developments concerning the polynomial transforms have taken place, and we have included, in this edition, a discussion of the relationship between DFT and convolution polynomial transform algorithms. This material is covered in Appendix A, along with a presentation of new convolution polynomial transform algorithms and with the application of polynomial transforms to the computation of multidimensional cosine transforms. We have found that the short convolution and polynomial product algorithms of Chap. 3 have been used extensively. This prompted us to include, in this edition, several new one-dimensional and two-dimensional polynomial product algorithms which are listed in Appendix B. Since our book is being used as part of several graduate-level courses taught at various universities, we have added, to this edition, a set of problems which cover Chaps. 2 to 8. Some of these problems serve also to illustrate some research work on DFT and convolution algorithms. I am indebted to Mrs A. Schlageter who prepared the manuscript of this second edition. There is, however, an important contribution which social psychology, the study of the individual in a social context, can make to the social work process. This contribution is the central concern of this book. Consequently, the book is seen as filling a fundamental gap in the existing social work literature. The structure of the book is dictated by the belief that social workers and social psychologists should collaborate in evolving a social psychological model of social work practice. Such a model, the result of collaboration between a social worker and a social psychologist, is presented here. The book is addressed not simply to teachers and students of social work but also, specifically, to social work practitioners and to social psychologists besides all those who deal with social work problems. In addressing a wide audience, it is important to estab lish a lingua franca: social workers need to understand the basics of social psychology and social psychologists must understand the basis of social work practice. 324 pp. Englisch.
