This topic is important in many areas of signal processing such as, just to give some examples, radar, son…ar, communications, and hyperspectral imaging. Most of the existing adaptive algorithms have been designed following the lead of the derivation of Kelly's detector which assumes perfect knowledge of the target steering vector. However, in realistic scenarios, mismatches are likely to occur due to both environmental and instrumental factors. When a mismatched signal is present in the data under test, conventional algorithms may suffer severe performance degradation. The presence of strong interferers in the cell under test makes the detection task even more challenging. An effective way to cope with this scenario relies on the use of 'tunable' detectors, i.e., detectors capable of changing their directivity through the tuning of proper parameters. The aim of this book is to present some recent advances in the design of tunable detectors and the focus is on the so-called two-stage detectors, i.e., adaptive algorithms obtained cascading two detectors with opposite behaviors. We derive exact closed-form expressions for the resulting probability of false alarm and the probability of detection for both matched and mismatched signals embedded in homogeneous Gaussian noise. This approach has given rise to the misnomer 'global risk' and gen- ated extensive 'lip-service' around this more broad-minded approach to managing risk factors and the prevention of CVD. This short book was devised with the idea of providing a practical summary of the rationale for management based on estimated total CV risk and the various methods associated with so-doing. Practical issues are addressed including treatment thresholds and targets for the major risk factors on which we routinely intervene, and a brief descr- tion of the major means of these interventions is provided. Whilst a multifactorial approach to CV prevention is logical and reflects the pathophysiological processes which underpin the formation of athe- sclerosis, the evidence base to guide practice using estimated CV risk ('global risk') as a threshold for intervention is essentially non-existent. Meanwhile, pending supportive evidence from randomized trials, prac- cal, pragmatic, and cost-effective approaches to preventing CVD, which is the current biggest contributor to global mortality and burden of disease, is urgently required. The hope is that this book may make a small contribution toward reducing the horrendous burden which CVD currently imposes on the world. 100 pp. Englisch.

The conference was organized as a meeting point for telecare pr…oduct vendors, policy makers, government ministers, academics, clinicians and all those involved in electronic and mobile health, to examine and to share ideas contributing to the - vancement of electronic healthcare into the twenty-first century. The conference had a huge success with a large number of paper submissions. Ninety-seven papers were submitted, of which 32 were selected for presentation. Each paper was carefully reviewed blindly by a minimum of three referees from the resp- tive field. A special thanks should go to the Technical Program Committee for their hard and efficient work in the review process. In addition to the submitted contributions, the conference included a business pres- tation track with 12 invited talks by key people in the world of eHealth. The business presentation track was chaired by Sir Jonathan Michael (Deputy Director, BT Health). It was specifically tailored to produce more effective dia…logue between the research, technology and business communities on technical developments in China and around the world. The event had industry support via well-know industry names such as the WIFI Alliance, Springer, CREATE-NET and Arris. The main focus of the event was on transport networks and infrastructures, video distribution systems and methods and the associated software systems that tie them all together. A total of 24 authors submitted their papers and a final 11 registrations were accepted. It was an excellent start to the B2B program and feedback was positive from all attendees. The presentations this year originated from the USA, Denmark, Germany, Brazil and of course China, providing the audience with a wide variety of topics and persp- tives in all the three categories mentioned above. The presentations from the event are available for download from the website itself (see Next year's event is already being planned and it will again be collocated with the Chinacom scientific event.
