Big science is now more a matter of big machines and unifocal discoveries as the basis for pars pro toto reasoning than big ideas based on the assembly and analysis of all that is known. After years and years of using computers, companies realized they had stored gigantic amounts of data. Then, they realized that this data, just rough information for them, might become a real treasure if turned into knowledge. FCA is particularly well suited for this purpose. From relational data, FCA can extract implications, - pendencies, concepts and hierarchies of concepts, and thus capture part of the knowledge hidden in the data. The ICFCA conference series gathers researchers from all over the world, being the main forum to present new results in FCA and related elds. These results range from theoretical novelties to advances in FCA-related algorithmic issues, as well as application domains of FCA. ICFCA 2008 was in the same vein as its predecessors: high-quality papers and presentations, the place of real debate and exchange of ideas. ICFCA 2008 contributed to strengthening the links between theory and applications. The high quality of the presentations was the result of the remarkable work of the authors and the reviewers. Subject to restrictions in bandwidth, computer power, and computation time,…a robot has to react to a wealth of dynamically changing stimuli in such - vironments, requiring rapid, selective attention to decisive, action-relevant - formation of high current utility. Robust and general engineering methods for e ectively and e ciently coupling perception, action, and reasoning are unava- able. Interesting performance, if any, is currently only achieved by sophisticated robot programming exploiting domain features and specialties, which leaves - dinary users no chance of changing how the robot acts. The latter facts are high barriers for introducing, for example, service robots into human living or work environments. In order to overcome these barriers, additonal R&D e orts are required. The PKC 2008 Program Committee (PC) consisted of 30 internationally renowned experts. Their names and a liations are listed further on in these proceedings. By the September 7, 2007submission deadline the PC had received 71 submissions via the IACR Electronic Submission Server. The subsequent - lection process was divided into two phases, as usual. In the review phase each submissionwascarefullyscrutinizedbyatleastthreeindependentreviewers,and the review reports, often extensive,werecommittedtotheIACRWebReview System. These were taken as the starting point for the PC-wide Web-based d- cussion phase. During this phase, additional reports were provided as needed, and the PC eventually had some 258 reports at its disposal. In addition, the discussions generated more than 650 messages, all posted in the system. During the entire PC phase, which started on April 12, 2006 with the invitation by the PKC Steering Committee, and which continued until March 2008, more than 500 e-mail messages were communicated.
