In this process the transmitter enciphers (or encrypts) a plaintext message into a ciphertext. 4 ciphertexc ciphering Fig. 3: The Wire-tap-channel This transformation is called a cipher(function) which the au- rized receiver deciphers (decrypts). An enemy is a person or institution who wants illegal access to the messages. Assuming that the enemy can only get hold of the ciph- texts, he has to perform a cryptanalysis in order to reconstitute the plaintexts. To add to the difficulties for a cryptanalyst, the cipher functions are chosen to a varying parameter, called the key. A generator cryptosystem consists of a class of injective cipher functions ES:M-C , mapping plaintext messages(EM) into ciphertexts(EC) . The parameter s runs through the set K of keys. It was attended by 166 scien tists from 22 countries. The subject of the symposium was internal kinematics and dynamics of galaxies and it was aimed to confront recent theoretical developments in this field with the wealth of new observational mate rial obtained during the last few years. Barred galaxies and spiral structure were two major topics, though unfortunately at the last minute the main proponent of one of the spiral formation theories was unable to attend. After a general demarcation of the forms, techniques and functions of product differentiation, an investigation is made into the correlation between the law and product differentiation; first, regarding pharmaceutical products and, then, though only by way of reconnaissance, for foodstuffs and cosmetics. Both in the general descriptive part and in the parts dealing with various sectors, attention is also paid to product differentiation as a source of the geographical division of markets. In a later chapter, certain general Observations on the law and socially undesirable product differentiation are developed. Here special attention is paid to trade mark law and regulations relating to misleading and dishonest advertising. The survey shows that, in the light of the existing economic model, improved consumer protection against the representation of product differ ences which hardly exist, can best be effected by means of regulations and other initiatives concerned with the supply of information, such as labelling requirements. I…t is therefore no surprise that for the last, at least, one hundred years intent attention should have been centered on EDL. So much of material has been gathered to date that we are easi ly lost in this maze of information. A substantial part of the attempts to systematize these facts is made at present within the framework of thermodynamics. Such a confined approach is undoubtedly inadequate. The Gouy-Chapman theory and the Stern-Grahame model of the dense part of EDL developed 40-70 years ago, tailored appropriately to suit the occasion, inevitably underlie any description of EDL. This route is rather too narrow to explain all the facts at our disposal. A dire necessity has thus arisen for widening the principles of the micros copic theory. This is precisely the objective of our monograph. After a general demarcation of the forms, techniques and functions of product differentiation, an investigation is made into the correlation between the law and product differentiation; first, regarding pharmaceutical products and, then, though only by way of reconnaissance, for foodstuffs and cosmetics. Both in the general descriptive part and in the parts dealing with various sectors, attention is also paid to product differentiation as a source of the geographical division of markets. In a later chapter, certain general Observations on the law and socially undesirable product differentiation are developed. Here special attention is paid to trade mark law and regulations relating to misleading and dishonest advertising. The survey shows that, in the light of the existing economic model, improved consumer protection against the representation of product differ ences which hardly exist, can best be effected by means of regulations and other initiatives concerned with the supply of information, such as labelling requirements. Menabrea, attaching her own scientific commentaries on the dissimilarities between the difference engine and the analytical engine. It was Lady Lovelace, the great lady of computers, who delivered the notes and loosely organized writings of Babbage, with her own invaluable amendments, to a world not quite ready to receive them. The Ada language effort has employed hundreds, if not thousands, of minds and a healthy sum of money since its conception. Ada was fostered by the High Order Language Working Group (HOLWG), chartered by the U.S. Department of Defense in January of 1975 with the overall objective of developing a systematic approach to improved use of software by the military. One would think the Pentagon an unlikely foster parent for a new computer language. Regardless of its lineage, the question that begs asking is, of course - Why The answer is by no means a simple one, but some brief background may help to clarify the matter. At present, the Department of Defense is the largest software consumer on earth, employing roughly 400 different computer languages and dialects. It is… therefore no surprise that for the last, at least, one hundred years intent attention should have been centered on EDL. So much of material has been gathered to date that we are easi ly lost in this maze of information. A substantial part of the attempts to systematize these facts is made at present within the framework of thermodynamics. Such a confined approach is undoubtedly inadequate. The Gouy-Chapman theory and the Stern-Grahame model of the dense part of EDL developed 40-70 years ago, tailored appropriately to suit the occasion, inevitably underlie any description of EDL. This route is rather too narrow to explain all the facts at our disposal. A dire necessity has thus arisen for widening the principles of the micros copic theory. This is precisely the objective of our monograph. It was attended by 166 scien tists from 22 countries. The subject of the symposium was internal kinematics and dynamics of galaxies and it was aimed to confront recent theoretical developments in this field with the wealth of new observational mate rial obtained during the last few years. Barred galaxies and spiral structure were two major topics, though unfortunately at the last minute the main proponent of one of the spiral formation theories was unable to attend. Thiriez and S. Zionts in Jouy-en-Josas (1975), S. Zionts in Buffalo (1977), G. Fandel and T. Gal in Hagen/Konigswinter (1979) and J. Morse in Newark (1980). Second, closer contacts Nere desired between participants in these meetings and other active groups in the field, prominent among which is the European Working Group on Multiple Criteria Decision Aid. Third, participation of senior or junior researchers who had recently developped important new methodolo0ies, such as the Analytical Hierarchy Process, was actively sought for. Fourth, a synthesis of the rapidly expanding field of MCDM was to be made through selective surveys by leading researchers in the various areas it comprises. Fifth, cross-fertilization and multidisciplinary research was to be encouraged through presentations on the connections between MCDM and mathematics, economics, game theory, computer science and other subjects.
