The medal is 6 cm in diameter and cast in 3 oz. of Sterling Silver. The surface is high lustre with polished edges. The medal is titled on the edge along with the artist's name and the edition, this being 33/100. Each side shows a polar image of the Scott sledge members and on the reverse the Amundsen members both with their respective country flags. The medal is housed in a custom leather box. A fine example The medal was commissioned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of man's first attainment of the South Pole. The medal shows both iron willed explorers and their committed crews. A wonderful production and a beautiful display piece. The artist, Danuta Solowiej, is Polish and resides in London. She has done numerous important commissions over the years. The original price of the medal was 395 Pounds in 2012.
