Critiques have focused on the extreme unreality of the assumptions that underpin the Arrow-Debreu theorems of welfare econom…ics. They have queried the excessive formalism of the edifice, and the lack of practical significance of many of the results.They have castigated the neoclassical synthesis for its internal incoherence (lacking an independent theory of capital, for example, one of the favorite topics of the Cambridge school), its lack of a dynamic element, its non-evolutionary character, its lack of any conception of 'market process' and so the list could be continued (Blaug, 1997). Through all this, the neoclassi cal synthesis remains as strong as ever, impervious it seems to these or any other attacks. In this paper a different tack is taken. The neoclassical edifice is left alone, standing as a representation of what goes on in a certain kind ofeconomy- namely the economy wheregoods and services are producedand exchanged. Since the pioneer work of Kantorovich in 1939, which frrst appeared in the West in 1960, there has been a steadily growing number of contributions of increasing importance in this research area, particularly in the past decade. As of today more than 700 contributions exist even when applying a strict categorisation. Since comprehensive monographies and compiled studies are still lacking, it is very time consuming and thus expensive to search for a suitable solution procedure for concrete problems in the available literature. Thus, an apparently simpler way is often chosen, which is to develop ones own approach. For this reason there is not only the danger of unnecessary effort and scientific repetition, but it is reality. With the goal of improved research coordination an interdisciplinary Special Interest Group on Cutting and Packing (SICUP) was founded in 1988, which meets every two years (1988 Paris, 1990 Athens, 1992 San Francisco) and issues a semi-annual newsletter (SICUP Bulletin) with up-to-date information. Allerdings können wir bei der Analyse des Scheiterns nicht zwischen Konkursen und sonstigen Arten des Marktaustritts trennen. Durch die weitere Untersuchung der Kreditausfallhöhe und der Kredita- fallquoten gewinnen wir ein vollständigeres Bild. Faktoren wie die H- tungsbeschränkung der Rechtsform, die Motivation des Gründers und die Förderhöhe wirken auf die absolute Höhe des zu erwartenden Kredita- falls und die Kreditausfallquoten in signifikanter Weise. Um ein vollständiges Bild nicht nur über die einzelwirtschaftlichen Kosten des unternehmerischen Scheiterns staatlich geförderter Unternehmen s- dern auch über den mit der Förderung einhergehenden Nutzen zu gew- nen, ist es notwendig, auch die erfolgreichen Unternehmen genauer zu analysieren. Es zeigt sich, dass viele der untersuchten Einflussfaktoren nicht nur die Scheiterwahrscheinlichkeit sondern auch die Wachstumsraten beeinflussen. Zwar verursachen Unternehmen, die eine haftungsbeschr- kende Rechtsform gewählt haben, höhere Forderungsausfälle und verfügen über niedrigere Rückzahlungsquoten bei ihren Krediten. Im Erfolgsfall wächst die Gruppe haftungsbeschränkter Unternehmen aber auch schn- ler. Weniger vorteilhaft sind dagegen die Wirkungen, die von ambitioni- ten, mit der kreditfinanzierten Investition verbundenen Beschäftigungsz- len ausgehen.
