red gilt lettered faux leather "leatherette" cloth hardbound 8vo. 8º (octavo). no dustwrapper. fine cond. binding square & tight. covers clean. edges clean. contents free of markings. nice clean copy. no library markings or store stamps, no stickers or bookplates, no names, no inking , no underlining, no remainder markings etc ~. 2nd printing. thumb indexed edition. xxxii+1832p. + blank "notes" pages at rear. index. animal husbandry. veterinary medicine. animal welfare. agriculture. The puropose of the Verck Veterninary Manual is to provide a concise and reliable source of information for those interested in the health and welfare of animals. With the wealth of relevant infornation that exists, no one can remember it all. While not all of this can be compressed into a handbook, we hope that our efforts will be of real help to practicing veterinarians and their colleagues in the animal sciences. Prevention and control of disease are foremost objectives and, obviously, diagnosis and treatment are essential components of control. We have noted~with pleasure~that persons other than veterinarians utilize the Manual, and hope that they too find it useful and that this is beneficial to animal health and welfare. However, for any problems with animal health, we recommend consulting a veterinarian, especially before treatment is initiated. The Manual is divided into 10 parts. Part I, which addresses the diseases of common domestic animals, large and small, is subdivided into 14 sections (see the Contents listed on p vii). As we have noted in earlier editions, it is impossible to categorize diseases in a manner that will appeal to all readers, but we hope that the arrangement will be an aid, particularly to those with diagnostic problems. We recommend reading the Guide for Readers (p viii) as well as this Foreword; these should make it easier to utilize the Manual.
