Interview schedule and interview guide were used to gather data. Primary data was collected from 60 households in the 6 electoral areas using convenience and purposive sampling techniques. Five other respondents comprising RWST, DWST, WSDB, WATSAN and opinion leaders were also interviewed. The Statistical Product for Service Solutions (SPSS) version 16 was used to analyse the data collected. The study revealed that, community management of water schemes is a useful approach for community development. In view of the water management systems, community management alone of the rural water schemes seems not to be an ideal solution for attaining sustainability of rural water schemes. Titled conservation of library resources questionnaire (CLRQ) to guide the study and survey design was used. The result of the study showed that the conservation methods of the libraries were mainly cleaning, dusting of library materials, installation of air conditioners in the libraries and that the libraries have binding units, regular fumigation of the library materials, proper shelving of the books and photocopying machines. The result also showed that the conservation method was less extent which means that enough attention is not given to conservation methods. The study revealed that few resources were employed for conservation of the libraries resources among which are photocopying machine, good housekeeping mainly and that they lack trained conservators and equipments for digitalisation. To perform proper analysis several equations must be estimated simultaneously, which nominates Vector Auto Regression as the best method for this study. Illustration of impulse response functions and variance decomposition show us degree of pass-through and share of variation in consumer prices explained by changes in exchange rate. Despite data limitation this research provides meaningful results. Caucasian countries have many similarities but each reveals its own uniqueness. Pass-through is relatively higher in Georgia and Armenia and very low in Azerbaijan. This is consistent with previous literature that countries with higher share of import have higher pass-through. Vector Error Correction model shows that the lowest deviation from long-term equilibrium is in Armenia, which probably is due to inflation targeting strategy. Variance decomposition shows significant share of exchange rates in explaining changes in CPI only in Georgia, which should suggest Georgian monetary authority to observe changes in exchange rate more carefully than other Caucasian countries. 56 pp. Englisch.…

Epicuticular waxes plays very important role in hindering the attachment of insects to the leaves. In this study the wax deficient mutant plants GaWM3 were used as experimental plants while Gossypium arboreum (786) were used as negatively controlled plants as it is reported that whitefly can not transmit virus in it and G. hirsutum (MNH-93) were taken as negative and positive control plants because it has severe viral attack in past. It is important to mention here that GaWM3 were produced in our laboratory at CEMB from Gossypium arboreum (786) with the only difference of having 50% less wax than Gossypium arboreum (786). It was found that the G. hirsutum (MNH-93) was CLCuV positive and G. arboreum (786) was CLCuV negative. But most strikingly the wax deficient GaWM3 mutant plants which contain 50% less than G. arboreum (786) wax were CLCuV positive while the plants from which these mutants were made (G. arboreum ,786) were CLCuV negative. Presently we investigated whether both alcohol and obesity could act together to increase the risk factors of liver biomarkers. Weight related problems occurs due to alcohol intake depend on the quantity and quality of alcohol and frequency by which it is consumed. Serum ALT (P 0.002), GGT (P 0.001) and ALP (P 0.001) activities in moderate drinkers were higher than those in abstainers. Mean ALT activity is higher in obese and over weight in alcohol consumers and abstainers as compared to mean AST activity in the same groups. ALP activity was increased with BMI in moderate drinkers. ALP activity in abstainers shows weak relation in relation to BMI. In the present analyses between BMI and drinking status, liver enzymes effect in population as a dependent variable. Significant main effects of BMI (p0.05) were noted for all enzymes while drinking status was associated with ALT, GGT and ALP. ALP showed a marked difference among AST, ALT and GGT with regards to alcohol consumption and BMI. Coastal Kenya farmers are aware of the problem of declining soil fertility caused by continuous cropping without returning nutrients, soil erosion, burning of plant residues, and short fallow intervals in food crops production. This work examined the nutrients dynamics when intercropping forage legumes with food crops. The decomposition and nutrient release study revealed that an asymptotic model best described legumes dry matter disappearance across harvest management strategies. Positive nutrient balances occurred for maize/legume intercropping systems where maize stover was returned to the system and P supplied to the legume. Calculations of the area by time equivalent ratios (ATER) based on annual yields of maize, legume, and cassava revealed that intercropping of clitoria or dolichos with maize or cassava resulted in the most efficient way of utilizing land area and time, with the longer cutting intervals of the legume indicating a more efficient use of space and time. Glutamate is a major neurotransmitter that acts on extensive brain regions, such as hypothalamus and the pituitary and induce the secretion of PRL. In this study, young male rabbits (Lates calcarifer) of 3 to 4 months of age were treated with 2mg/g body weight MSG dissolved in 0.9% saline. The animals in control group received equal quantity of 0.9% saline. Blood samples were collected 15 minutes after administration of drug, and plasma was separated. All plasma samples were analyzed by Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Within the control group, there was no significant difference in plasma PRL level (p0.05). In treated group, plasma PRL level was highest in T2 (2.69 ± 0.042 ng/ml) and lowest in T1 (2.16 ± 0.067 ng/ml). Administration of glutamate in the form of MSG causes tonic activation of tuberinfudibular dopaminergic neuron system (TIDA). As a result dopamine release, PRL level in prepubertal rabbits decreases. This experiment attempts to study the impacts of time and level of pruning on growth, flowering, leaf tissue analysis and yield of guava and find the best interaction to induce the plants to yield in winter season which is superior in quality with good market demand. Findings of the study reveals that time of pruning interacted significantly with level of pruning in respect to yield. Results help to conclude that to reduce rainy season crop and to give a good yield with high quality fruits in winter season, the plants are pruned in 20 cm pruning level not later than first week of May. As leaf tissue is concerned, study suggests that pruning time could not influence the NPK content of leaf significantly but level of pruning had marked effect on its content.
