Dash was an Indian scholar of Tibetan language and culture most noted for his two journeys to Tibet in 1879 and in 1881 1882. This book chronicles findings from his first expedition in 1879, which lasted 5 months. This limited edition (stamped copy No. 716 of 1000) was printed in India in 1970 from the original of 1881. It is part of the Bibliotheca Himalayica series promoted by Hal Kuloy - "the purpose of Bibliotheca Himalayica is to make available works on the civilizations and nature of central Asia and the Himalayas." Dark green cover with embossed edging and gold foil lettering on the spine. Slight fading inside cover and owners mark inside cover first page and second page. Book otherwise is in exceptional like new condition. No page markings or folds. Dust jacket protected in foil. 210 pages with black and white illustrations. Please review the photos as they form an important part of the description. The current owner, anthropologist and writer Don Messerschmidt, PhD, is known for his research and writings on the Himalayas and related topics. He has published books and articles internationally since the 1960s when he first lived in Nepal as an American Peace Corps volunteer. He went on to enhance his understanding of Himalayan peoples and places as an independent researcher and on numerous consultancies. For over a half-century, he has been engaged in field studies, university professorships, and writing about the rich cultures of Bhutan, Nepal, North India, and Tibet. Along the way, he amassed an extensive library of Himalayan studies and has written several of his own, including two prize-winners. He has also been an editor for two regional magazines and has been called upon to review and pen chapters and forewords for Himalayan-oriented publications.
