En el marco del proseminario ¿La España actual ¿ Economía, política, cultura y sociedad¿ me he ocupado de la busca de identidad del pueblo vasco, es decir con el nacimiento del nacionalismo vasco que surgió como respuesta a esta pregunta y ha cambiado la situación en el País Vasco para siempre.Demostraré que el nacionalismo vasco no es y nunca ha sido un movimiento homogéneo incluyendo a todos los vascos, sino que hay que diferenciar entre nacionalistas moderados y nacionalistas radicales. Además aclararé el papel que juega la cultura en el nacionalismo vasco y como ha sido instrumentalizado por los radicales para apoyar su ideología. En todo esto me restringiré a las tres provincias vascas de España (Álava, Guipúzcoa y Vizcaya), excluyendo Navarra y el País Vasco francés de mis reflexiones porque esto rebasaría los límites de este trabajo.También describiré las relaciones entre el Estado español y las provincias vascas y los intentos diferentes de convertir el País Vasco español en una región autónoma, llevando a dos textos estatuarios, el Estatuto de 1936 y el Estatuto de Gernika que es el Estatuto de la actual Comunidad Autónoma Vasca. En el último capítulo me concentraré en el tema que, por desgracia, es lo que más se conoce de los vascos: la ETA, es decir las relaciones entre el nacionalismo vasco y el terrorismo. Describiré su fundación, su desarrollo y, finalmente, la situación actual en el País Vasco español, mostrando perspectivas para el futuro.Este trabajo no intenta contar la historia de los vascos ni siquiera aclarar su origen, sino se limita a explicar los corrientes nacionalistas que se han manifestado desde el fin del siglo XIX hasta hoy, concediendo prioridad a la diferencia entre el nacionalismo moderado y el nacionalismo radical, lo que hoy en día es casi igual al contraste entre el Partido Nacionalista Vasco (PNV) y ETA. In which way are they presented, is there a stereotype of a gothic heroine and are there changes throughout the time referring to the date of publishing and writing The first point will be a short definition of the term 'Gothic' according to literature.The second point will be an introduction of the three authors. For a better understanding of their work and the possible differences a look at their biography is absolutely necessary for me. In order of publishing I will introduce Horace Walpole ('The Castle of Otranto'), Ann Radcliffe ('The Italian') and Charles Robert Maturin ('Melmoth the Wanderer'). Additional to some biographical dates I will give some information about their work and their style of writing. After introducing the authors I will concentrate on the novels and how women are described and presented. Which role do they play in the three novels Is there something special about each woman in the texts Here I will concentrate on some characteristics which are typical for gothic novels and not so much on the social conventions or expectations women are faced with at the appropriate times. The last point of my work will be a little conclusion. Because of the wide range of this theme I don't claim to the completeness of my research.

In this paper, the question will be answered whydemocratization has so far failed in post-communist Belarus.To answer this question thoroughly, it is indispensable to portrait the pre-transitionalhistory and political climate in communist Belarus (section 2.), as well as the actual transitionprocess starting in 1989 (section 3.). The research then turns to the question of how and to whatextent external actors, especially the U.S. and Europe, engaged in democratization efforts(section 4.). Eventually, the analysis of external and internal factors will answer the centralquestion of why democracy failed in Belarus (section 5.). It will be determined whetherinternational efforts have been made effectively and correctly, and also, which domestic factorsaverted a move towards democracy. The results found in this research indicate that internationalactors failed to recognize Belarus¿ exceptionalism among democratizing Eastern Europeancountries and therefore virtually missed the crucial period in which democratization was still apolitical possibility for Belarus.
