Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - The Awakening of Chinese Education collects representative essays, speeches and articles by Tao Xingzhi, a towering figure in modern Chinese educational reform. Arranged chronologically across four historical phases: the Beiyang-Government period (1912-1926), the Nanjing National-Government period (1927-1936), the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), and his final years in 1946, this volume presents his complete thinking on educational innovation.Centered on his core proposition 'Life is education, society is the school', Tao Xingzhi elaborates the integrated theory of 'teaching, learning and doing'. The book covers extensive themes including republican citizenship education, vocational education, teacher-training system reform, rural education development, kindergarten construction, student self-governance, creative education, and wartime mass education. He criticizes rigid, book-bound traditional schooling that divorces from real-life needs, advocates experimental educational approaches, and calls for popularizing education among peasants, youth and under-served groups in rural areas.Drawing on Dewey's experimental philosophy while adapting theories to Chinese domestic realities, Tao Xingzhi puts forward practical solutions for China's educational dilemmas. The preface is written by John Leighton Stuart, offering firsthand recollection of Tao's personality and academic pursuits. This collection serves as an essential primary source for researchers studying modern Chinese education, educational philosophy and social reform movements, displaying the intellectual journey of a pioneer who devoted his life to empowering ordinary people through education. …

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Liang Qichao: Works on Chinese Legal History collects Liang Qichao's classic academic writings on traditional Chinese legal thought and statutory-law evolution, translated by Liu Yanan. Rooted in pre-Qin classics, historical documents and comparative jurisprudence perspectives, this book consists of two core parts: On the History of the Development of Jurisprudence in China and The Development and Critical Assessment of Written Laws in China. The first section explores the origin of ancient Chinese law, analyzes legal concepts held by Confucianism, Mohism, Daoism and Legalism, and elaborates the rise and decline of the doctrine of rule-by-law in the Warring-States era. It compares rule-by-ritual, rule-by-man, rule-by-power and rule-by-law theories, investigates the social roots for the rise and fall of Legalist thought, and conducts etymological research on key ancient legal terms such as fa, lü, dian and ze.The second part traces the full evolution of Chinese written statutes from pre-Warring-States period through Han, Wei-Jin, Tang, Song to Ming-Qing dynasties. It examines milestone legal works including Li Kui's Fa Jing (Canon of Laws), the Han Nine-Chapter Law and the Tang Code. Liang Qichao reviews the formation, compilation techniques, institutional advantages and inherent defects of ancient Chinese codification, and reflects on the historical experience for modern legislative reform.Combining textual research with theoretical reflection, this volume reveals the inner logic of traditional Chinese legal civilization. It serves as an essential reference for researchers of Chinese legal history, intellectual history and comparative law.…

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Fuxi's Creation of the World is an epic literary work funded by Tianshui Normal University research project. Set against the ancient pre-historical backdrop of Dadiwan and Tianshui, the book reconstructs the mythic age of Fuxi and Nuewa. Centered on the Snake Tribe's daily life, customs, spiritual beliefs and tribal conflicts, it vividly portrays legendary figures including Fuxi, Nuewa, Zhu'er, Bird-Child, Fire Spirit, Black Bear and chieftains of neighbouring tribes. The narrative unfolds across multiple grand storylines: Fuxi establishes marriage rituals using paired deer hides as betrothal gifts; humanity masters fire-making techniques to conquer bitter cold; primitive pottery, fishing nets, stringed musical instruments and the Eight Trigrams are invented; Nuewa mends the broken heavens with five-coloured stones at the cost of her own life; multi-tribe wars, reconciliation and cultural integration take place; alongside tender youthful love, loss, sacrifice, reflections on war and peace, and profound philosophical contemplation over the relationship between humankind and all living things.Blending myth, folklore and poetic prose, this volume depicts the dawn of Chinese civilisation. It explores ancient people's understanding of love, duty, compassion, order and the natural world, presenting the hardships and spiritual brilliance of early ancestors as they marched toward civilisation.
