Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - After teaching and ministering twenty two years as a Christian pastor and evangelist, author Dhungarvn the Grey became disillusioned with the self-righteous membership and church politics. He left the ministry and began searching for the truth. In his re-evaluation of his concept of God and prayer, he reconnected with nature and the idea of nature-based spirituality. His soul stirred with a yearning toward paganism. From Pulpit to Pagan is the story of Dhungarvn the Grey's journey from Christianity to paganism and his quest for truth. Horus, Mithra, Krishna, and Jesus all told their followers, 'You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.' The truth about Christianity frees the pagan of the guilt-trips inflicted by well-meaning family members. It frees them from the tendency to credit Christianity, the Bible, and Jesus with more truth than is valid. It frees them from the missionary traps and ignorant attacks by evangelicals. Dhungarvn suspects that many in the pagan community are programmed by their family experience and Christian upbringing; they hold onto the Bible and Jesus out of unconscious fear and guilt. From Pulpit to Pagan details Dhungarvn's struggles, but also provides hope for other pagans to become truly free.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - During World War II, Luther College history professor Chellis N. Evanson published 'Scuttlebutt,' a newsletter to circulate news and addresses for the former Luther students who were in the service. In return, former students sent information about their whereabouts and, to the extent that military censorship would allow, descriptions of their activities. This edition of letters and photographs from that collection provides a unique insight into the lives of men and women serving in World War II. Under normal circumstances, they would have been living the lives of 'typical' college students: studying for exams, preparing for a ball game, hoping for an extra dish of ice cream at the 'Boarding Club,' or trying to build up courage to ask the woman next to them in class out on a date. Instead, they were diving for cover from German artillery barrages, or attempting to shoot down Japanese kamikaze pilots before their own ship was destroyed. The letters in this collection provide a glimpse of what these men and women experienced in World War II. For example, this report from Italy: 'I have had a few shells land around me, but no harm was done. In fact I got so brave once I had to look out just to see where they were bursting, I got the look but another whistling Joe told me to get back where I belong. Couldn't say I was scared, I guess I just stopped living for awhile. I kept thinking of room 88 in Larsen and how nice it would be to be back there. I hope that day isn't too far away.' Don 'Piecrust' Strom Marvin G. Slind, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of History at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. His specialty is modern European history, focusing primarily on Scandinavia and Germany.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - The book Whispers is the result of a two-year journey both of us enjoyed and enhanced our lives with many exciting experiences. We wrote our poems individually and independent of each other with the goal to intermingle them and let the differences in style and topic become similarities and vice versa, thus creating our Poetic Symbiosis. This book is proof of what poets can achieve in mind and spirit no matter the physical distance. The result is an extraordinary collection of individual poems that all blend together, from Inceptions to Ineluctability and any stage in between. Poetry is a very personal reflection of thoughts, emotions and feelings. It shares with others how we feel, think and express ourselves. To be able to achieve such between two poets from miles away and yet be able to incorporate individual emotions in one single book is truly amazing. Our souls, emotions and feelings are clearly embedded in our poetry. What is more important is that you, as the reader, find your meanings in your own time and space. May all of you not only find the power and meaning of poetry, but may you also experience the journey this book represents and everything that is possible. May our inspirations give rise to your colors. And may our Whispers forever give rise to your new inspirations.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - War Child is an unflinching look at the horrors of human abuse and war-and it reflects how those horrors continue to twist and shape the lives of refugees long after they escape their own country's conflicts. This story tells the true events of one young man's courageous flight from injustice in West Africa, where he falls victim to violence at the hands of an abusive, gambling father, only to be captured by marauding rebel troops, then held prisoner, by a supposedly enlightened Western society. On his long road of despair he is subjected to a chain of continued abuse, victimization and disappointment. Weakened by his struggle for freedom, Ray begins to lose his sense of self and reality. This mental confusion eventually brings him to the brink of madness. Ray's ultimate freedom is hard won, and is accomplished only through his indomitable spirit and a strong faith that prevailed against all odds.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - There is nothing like this in print anywhere! So, you know history . . . well, Brough explains it. He applies evolutionary natural selection to the whole of human history and prehistory, showing how social evolution works. He fully explains what makes civilizations rise and fall-our own, for example. No wonder all this was never known before: religion-influenced academic thinking stood in the way! If anything is capable of bringing Free Thinkers 'out of the closet' so they can come together and organize, this is it. This extensive research effectively explains what the Religious-Right does to a society because the research is objective, impartial. Every Free Thinker who reads it will find out why Religious Reaction is growing, what it did in previous societies (yes, in every civilization, even in prehistory) and what is happening this time.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - He was considered a musician's musician, the most gifted artist in that exciting Southern California world dominated by the great emigré composers, the film industry, the brilliant soloists and the avant-gardists who made Los Angeles a musical capital. Ingolf Dahl (1912-1970) was an accomplished composer, conductor, pianist and a mentor to eminent contemporary figures like Michael Tilson Th omas - yet he never achieved the celebrity which others felt he deserved. He was not the man his public knew, a happily married gentile of Swedish extraction. His thirty-year marriage to Etta, one that seemed the epitome of mutual love and devotion, was beset by insoluble problems of identity - for Dahl was a closeted homosexual. He was also a German whose father was a Jew, and his name was not even Ingolf Dahl. His decision to disguise all of these truths, even from members of his own family, lead to fatal distortions in his creative being and public persona.Although he numbered many famous figures among his friends, from Gracie Fields to Igor Stravinsky and Benny Goodman, Dahl always experienced life as an outsider. When he died he left behind an extensive body of correspondence and 42 years worth of intimate daily journals. Etta Dahl (1905-1970) left many written records as well. These sources, never made public before, and the recollections of many survivors, give us a portrait of an intriguingly complex character, noble and self-absorbed, creative and crankish, passionate and repressed. The Lives of Ingolf Dahl has one other unique source, the author himself. Anthony Linick was the child of this famous marriage, the son whose very existence contributed to the elaborate deformations of fact and persona that so disfi gured Dahl's life. With love and respect - and the historian's devotion to the truth - he can tell their whole story at last.…
